I would love to go skydiving for christmas! Something I've always wanted to do, but where is going to be the best/cheapest place to go??? Can someone help?

    I live in Swindon, Wiltshire.

Reschedule for the summer. The weather in the UK in unpredictable at the best of times, if you do book a tandem now you will probably have a long wait at the dropzone until the conditions are favorable, and that wait may be days rather than hours. Also, in the winter it's cold, very cold, at 13,000ft.

If you were thinking of doing a skydiving course, then it's actually cheaper to fly to the US, do the course in Florida or Arizona, than to do an AFF here.

But if it really has to be at Christmas then check the BPA site which will give you links to various dropzones near you. Give them a call and book direct. Don't be tempted to ask for a "Red Letter Day" type voucher as a present, your friend will pay a significant premium over the directly booked price.

  • I got mine a really good torch that doesn't need batteries, just needs a good shaking to charge it up - excellent, no whingeing for new batteries on Boxing day and it kept him quiet for a few hours.

Best price £29.99 for a large one (!)

Get them from the online shop at https://www.nightstaruk.com.

    They are actually really good.

i've got a selection of cooking ingrediants from the sale at lakeland, came to about £40 for my dad who thinks he's the new jamie oliver. just need an apron now.

Go the whole hog ... there's a great Jamie Oliver apron in the crimbo gift section in Boots!

Learn from the mistakes of others - you won't live long enough to make them all yourself.

:j Thanks Saffymore for reminding me about these - I've been trying to think of something to get for my brothers (impossible!) but hadn't thought about these torches. My husband got me one a couple of years ago in the States and it is excellent. The shop, www.nightstaruk.com is currently offering 10% off too so the large one (!) is £26.99. They've also got a handbag-sized one (it's pink, too) for £17.99. Three Christmas presents sorted!

Had a gansey (old-fashioned north east fisherman's jumper) knitted for him by a lady up in Northumbria. Cost me £80, but would have been cheaper if he wasn't 6'6" tall. Totally unique, and will last a lifetime.
Now I just need to find something small and silly.
My other "man" is my 15-year-old son, and it'll probably be a really big memory stick for his new PSP, so he can copy on DVDs that we already have. My students tell me they have bought these from companies in Hong Kong at knock-down prices, half the UK price but they work, so I will be picking their brains...
Please can I have the address for the gansey my e-mail is **email address deleted by board guide please dont post personal address for safety reasons***

Just wanted to say good suggestion - excellent idea for my dad, who is an avid if not very sucessful DIYer, and also my brother who is an outdoorsy type (does a lot of walking/campiong etc). Cheers Saffymore :T

i have managed to catch a couple of hints, so a digital radio and a posh watch may be on the cards. I would recommend a wind-up radio to anyone who hasnt got one already.

VK2003, last time I bought my DH wine....six bottles of different fortified, sherries, port and marsala, he looked at it and said "Oh God! A liver pickling kit!"

I'm not surprised looking at the levels of alcohol in that line up!:D
