That will have caught some shorters with their trousers well and truly around their ankles! :rotfl:

Actually the BBC have, by spreading all kinds of rumours about the price, first £3 (ridiculous, above the right issue price), then £2, then £3 again.

I don't know where they got the £3.00 from, but it's definitely been a roller-coaster ride in the SP today (which I assume is what you refer to). HBOS opened at around £1.97, fell to 88p, then rose to £2.20 before dropping back to around £1.70 now. Trough to peak around 150% difference!

can someone explain to me please im not really up on all this kind of stuff, we have a mortgage promise from halifax are we basically stuffed now?

You'll be fine. There's no indication that existing offers will be affected.

Although I would say you are stuffed if you are buying a house at all  However, it's your call and your money.

Every pound less borrowed (to buy a house) is more than two pounds less to repay and more than three pounds less to earn, over the course of a typical mortgage.

i understand and have had many people say similar, but our reasons for buying and the fact that the offer we have had accepted means we get a bargain compred to other prices on the street and also we are making it a home and not an investment all make it worth while for us.
    thanks for your reply :)

Have you checked against other sold prices, or are you just comparing with asking prices?
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

lol, lovely to see the 'house is a home, not an investment' argument thrown back into the faces of the HPC community (who are now the new investment gurus).

To be fair, I don't really believe that HBOS is going to fail. In my case, it was a zero cost move, as Northern Wreck is offering significantly more interest than Shabbyfax. Also HBOS failing is a risk, however small, that I simply don't need to take. Indeed the Wreck are paying me not to take it.

There's no need to explain yourself to a load of strangers on the internet, GDB. It's your money to do what you want with, you worked hard for it and you're just making sure you and your family are protected. Nowt wrong with that.

It's genuine I'm afraid, said poster is a very bitter person for some reason.

He started by venting his anger on me but seems to be aiming it at the wider mass of people in the group which is by now almost universally bearish.

Anyway, if you know what you are getting into then go for it. As long as you go in with your eyes open.
