Hmmm...seeI was kinda thinking £30-40...I know females are more difficult as it is invasive surgery where as with the boys they just get pulled out and cut.
Am not sure if it cos he is a dwarf breed and so is v tiny (he only weighs 2lbs) so there is more risk...
Seems a fair bit difference round different vets0 -
Rabbits have a generally higher anaesthetic risk than a dog or a cat, the procedure for castrating them is more time consuming than a cat, and in most practices the anaesthetics they use on the rabbit will be more expensive (even though they are smaller!) than that used on cats for routine spays/castrates. Rabbit spays are also more time consuming and (in most cases) more difficult than routine cat spays. Same with any small furry-it takes the vet longer to do the op on a guinea pig etc than a cat so it will cost more.
We charge around £55 (i think, off top of my head) for rabbit castrate, £65 for spay, but cats are <£40 for boy and £45 for spay0 -
Companion Care within Pets at Home stores can be very competitive = £550

Hey
Ii've just had my male rabbit done, cost me £42 and then to get the stitches out is free, for a female it would of been £45 about what i was expecting really.0 -
Had ours done a couple of weeks ago for £30, in Darlington0

We had our female bunny done about a year ago and it cost £58, that included 2 follow up visits. I had phoned around all the local vets (including one of the medi-vets)before booking her in and they were all charging about £130, so I had assumed follow up visits would be extra, luckily they wern't but if she had needed any further medication on the follow up visits they would have been extra.
We even got given what I thought was a 'goodie' bag, containing a collar (so she couldnt get at her stitches, various leaflets and some mini hay samples. When I checked the bill, they had charged around £6 for the collar and about £5 for the leaflets...well mini samples of hay lol Bit cheeky I thought.0 -
It cost over £90 to have my female bun spayed. I queried why it was more than our original quote and they said it was because they'd had to use two different kinds of stitches!!! What?!?!?
Vets prices vary massively. Our local vet is extremely expensive unfortunately. Vets 4 Pets however are very reasonable. I know there is one in Gamston which is good with rabbits. I asked what they charge for neutering when I was there a few months ago and it was something like £35 to neuter a male.0 -

My house bunny Elvis had the chop about three weeks ago and it cost £45 in Cambridge including the pre-check and the follow up. It has stopped his amorous affections aimed at my feet and he doesn't poo on the carpet anymore which is a bonus! I use the Village Vet which I think have branches scattered about the UK so may be worth a look.0

but for the goldfish you'll need at least a 20 gallon tank, so about £100 straight up, then you'll need a master test kit, £20, a net, food, syphon to clean the tank, £20,
Hope the bunny's feeling fine. Great topic, btw, it's good to highlight costs that many people wouldn't think about for rabbits - our neighbours last rabbit used to go to the vet every 6 weeks to get his TEETH trimmed!Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19
