Credit Card Bill - Need help!

Hi everyone,

I need some help and I'm hoping someone will have some good ideas!

I got a Credit Card (Barclays) last year to pay for a holiday and laptop, I think it had 6months interest free which withing reason I could have paid it off before the end had run out.

Unfortunately I left my job before they sacked me so my insurance wouldn't cover my payments. I was out of work 6 weeks and got in a right mess financially! I have now been back in work for 3 months but I am finding it really hard to get on top of my credit bill.

Eg - My balance last month was £826.01 I paid £20 off it last months and with interest added my bill went to £825.00!! That is ridiculous paying £20 to pay off £1.01!!!?

I have tried to do a balance transfer to an interest free account but because my credit took a beating while I was out of work no-one wants to help.

My bank won't help either and the credit card company don't care!

Any ideas???

Thankyou

  • Your best bet is to budget with your wages to realistically pay off a percentage amount per month.

I don't think £825 on credit card is such a big mess.
You will have to properly budget and try to pay it off as quickly as you can though - and £20 a month is not the way to do it.
I suggest you have a look at Debt Free Wanabees board and read through their threads. There is loads of people in exactly the same situation like you and they support each other and share ideas.
    Good luck.

  • I am trying to pay as much as I can but I have other bills to pay as E.ON passed one of my debts onto collectors. It is hard.

If you have troubles with more people like you say, I suggest you visit Citizen Advise Bureau as few people on Debt Free Wanabees were saying that they helped them out with writing letters to companies etc... It's worth a shot.
  • I have tried this, letters where written and ignored by the companys then passed onto moorcroft. I am paying things as much as I can but i don't seem to be getting anywhere!
  • As said, visit the debt free wannabe section of the forum. You can contact CCCS or payplan, charities set up to help with debt problems. A debt management plan may be the answer

I changed the title of your thread on the Debt Free Wannabe board since it made it sound as if THAT was the thread on the wrong board. I didn't want people to read the title then ignore the thread.

It is here: Credit Card Bill - Need help!

See Martin's article on problem debts.

You also might want to ask for help on freeing up money in your budget to make extra payments. Many people feel that isn't possible, but the DFW's are very good at finding ways to do this and/or make some extra money.
