Credit Card Bill - Need help!

Hi everyone,
I need some help and I'm hoping someone will have some good ideas!
I got a Credit Card (Barclays) last year to pay for a holiday and laptop, I think it had 6months interest free which withing reason I could have paid it off before the end had run out.
Unfortunately I left my job before they sacked me so my insurance wouldn't cover my payments. I was out of work 6 weeks and got in a right mess financially! I have now been back in work for 3 months but I am finding it really hard to get on top of my credit bill.
Eg - My balance last month was £826.01 I paid £20 off it last months and with interest added my bill went to £825.00!! That is ridiculous paying £20 to pay off £1.01!!!?
I have tried to do a balance transfer to an interest free account but because my credit took a beating while I was out of work no-one wants to help.
My bank won't help either and the credit card company don't care!
Any ideas???
