    hello fellow northwesterners :D

............. now in handforth/ wilmslow ish way.

    SNAP!

Like everywhere, good and bad bits. Your Sister should visit first.

From our house (near a shopping centre), the open fields and woods are only 100 yards away! Also the area's biggest Tesco and Marks & Spencer (Handforth Dean) are within walking distance if you want!

She will visit - now she knows where to go!
  • Totally agree!!

I used to live in Birmingham for 20 years, but moved to Manchester 10 years ago. If you take a city as having 20 suburbs (like Paris' arrondissements) then my experience househunting says Bham had 12-15 good areas, whilst Manchester is more like 5-8!

having been a travelling sales rep (so I get about a bit!) and having lived in 4 different parts of Manchester, I would agree - edge towards the South - Sale, Urmston, Cheadle Hulme, Hale, and Prestcih/Whitefield is *ok* in the North.

Forget the Eastern side and most of the North, and frankly most of Manchester is good for road networks although the M60 gets very heavy around j18 (north), j 8-12 (sale-eccles) and around j1 (stockport) so bear that in mind.

I'm looking at the moment and favouring either Sale/Urmston/Cheadle, or bizarrely Bolton (more for your money) and looking to pay £250k ish for a 3 bed.

    Good luck!!

Cheadle much better than urmston IMO, there was someone on here not that long ago talking about quite a lot of ASB in urmston. Certainly last time I was there found it all a bit "run down" . sale OK, especially if you want to be close to the grammar schools sale is excellent ( family members went there)
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

Well I had to stick my beak in! I live in Urmston and it isn't to my taste. However I will try to be objective for the OPs sake. Well in the price range you could get some very nice houses BUT........Like Linz said there ARE "problem areas"(mainly Flixton-although there are some stunning houses that have no trouble at all) Urmston town centre looks like a bomb site at the moment but to be fair(goes against the grain as I HATE Urmston with a vengance) they are totally rebuilding it. There is a huge Sainsburys due to open in March. Loads of new shops and it should much better. There are links to town(mainline railway station)good bus links and its only a short hop to the Metro (Stretford or Eccles).
As for the schools......Well the answer is it depends. I work as a tutor in Trafford and its fair to say there are some "good schools":rotfl: I wouldn't send a slug to. Be warned.. Also DH is working as a supply teacher having worked "properly (IYSWIM) for Bury, Rochdale and Trafford:eek: and has also covered Stockport and Tameside:eek:     .Please feel free to PM me for any inside info/general dont touch with a barge pole.
To be honest if I had to live anywhere in Trafford again it would be in Sale. Decent shopping centre and the most fantastic vet(and a rubbish one as well!)and again fantastic links.
Good luck to oyur sister. A xx
edit: there is a totally FANTASTIC chippy in Urmston-one of the few good things about it!
Blind as you run...aware you were staring at the sun.

And when no hope was left inside on that starry starry night.

I'm sure if she avoids the more "vibrant" areas she'll be fine.
