This is really irritating

I've always had a little glitch with my laptop, but I've just had to have a new hard drive and now its become a bigger problem. When I'm typing ( letter, or as now with this question) the cursor keeps moving back to previous text, either the line above, or sometimes even further back. Its making my writing look like gobbledegook. There doesn't seem to be any consistancy, like typing a certain letter orwhen I reach the end of a line. Anyone know why this is happening & how I can correct it?

Have you got 'tapping' enabled on your touchpad? Have you adjusted the sensitivity?

How do I find that? Although I'm not actually touching the touchpad when I'm typing. I've looked at the settings for the keyboard and mouse, but doesn't seem to be any setting for the cursor. I've had to retype this several times, its taken 5 mins to write this.
I've got Vista by the way

IT definitely sounds like a touchpad "issue" as when I'm on the work laptop I end up typing rubbish due to brushing the touchpad and making the cursor jump all over the place.

As for how to change to change the settings, what make and model is the laptop?

  • RTFM is Read the F****** Manual, and not much help to you as far as comments go.

Can you plug a bog standard mouse into the usb then disable the touch pad. That way you can eliminate wether or not its picking up input from your hands/fingers.

My compaq has a button above the touchpad that disables it and its a nice feature.

there is also settings for disabling it while typing ect, that you need to check are not causing the problem.

People should always do what they can for themselves i.e. read the manual before posting.

Saying that it's a Sony Viao is not much help as far as comments go either! How many different type of Sony Viao's are there?

By jove, I think I've got it. Did a bit of surfing and found this link - http://code.google.com/p/touchfreeze/downloads/list
I downloaded it and it seems to have solved the problem. The programme disables the touchpad when you are typing, but enables it assoon as you touch the pad again.
Apparently, even though I wasn't touching the pad as I was typing, it was still picking up some activity. I've managed to type this whole thing out without it once jumping around. Thanks to all who tried to help ( & those who didn't) Who needs manuals eh?
