Good luck BB. Let us know how you get on ;)
Is it better to aim for the stars and hit a tree or aim for a tree and land in its branches

  • Jinky,
So sorry for your loss hunny.
    ((hug))

    Hello, to everyone else!
DD, sorry you are feeling so discombobulated sweets. I must admit, returning the the 'real' world after working from home for 5 years was bloody brilliant! (sorry, that's not helping is it?)

Snags-I'm thinking and commiserating babe x

  • oooooooooooh, I'm back :(

Drive was ok - well, as ok as it could be, but at least I knew where Iwas going.

Dear god, there is so much to remember :( Equipment, fire exits, paperwork. Apparently the other 2 cookery tutors bring their stuff chopped and prepared and then get a learner to have a go and then everyone goes back and does it. There is no cooker directly next to me, so i'll be trying to remember what I should be saying, preparing, demonstrating and trying to get to a cooker that i'll be sharing with someone!

I am really starting to regret this 'I'm going to be a tutor' malarkey :(

  • Oh BB, I'm sure you'll be fine once you get going, nobody will expect you to be perfect on your first day ;)

  • I have the advantage of already knowing how a lot of it works because I already work there (albeit at a different place) in the day but there is still so much to remember - it's a maze in the school and part of induction is that I give a fire exit 'tour'!

I've ordered 3 aprons from ebay just now and apparently I would find it useful to get a little trolley of some kind to put all my stuff in, the prepared ingredients. Also means a trip to asda to pick up some of the smartprice little tubs to put the chopped onion etc in.

Why didn't I pick maths to teach - no cookers, demonstrating or washing up to think about:rolleyes:

Oh dont fret BB, it was only your first night once you get into the swing of things you will be fine. All the planning in the world doesnt make up for experience, just reflect and do it different next time.

I self evaluate after every session, what could I have done better, what went well.

Please dont beat yourself up, if its any consollation I could not get any of my students logged on to their computers as IT had failed to tell me that they log on differenly this academic year and as I had planned the whole session for them using the computers I felt a right twonk.

Just took them for a tour of the college and showed them the gym and beauty salon:D
But these things take time, I know that I'm, the most inept that ever stepped.
  • Evening all, daily random post from pap....

Anyones school/children collecting Morrisons 'Lets grow' vouchers?
  • I haven't even started teaching yet though Lou and I'm fretting :( The administrator there thinks I should say I've just started and to feed back to me what they like, or want to do differently but part of me doesn't want them to think - oh, she's new, she doesn't know what she's doing and feel short changed.

I also panic about not having anything to say! I can't do bull !!!!!! I have to have it all planned what I'm going to say which is fine for the actual cooking but not for the 'talky' bit to start with..........ooooooooooh, me and my big mouth saying 'oh I want to train to be able to teach'. :(
