  • Hi, Yes it is just after the 'Nutmeg' season.

The cheapest Airlines will be, EVA AIR, THAI itself the country's carrier.

Singapore & BA are more of the dearer Airlines.

You could try VIRGIN they do Bangkok now I think??

You could go on EMIRATES via Dubai, They are not the cheapest thou.

Or a cheaper Airline ETIHAD via Abu Dhabi.

    Good Luck.

  • It is peak season and as someone who has spent 6 years living there, then returning at xmas for holidays since moving home to the Uk, i feel your pain. I just had a look on Eva, my airline of choice and cant find a single thing on your dates, or any others to be fair. I am quite shocked to be honest, given i have been getting emails from friends claiming tourism is down??? Obviously the xmas boom is still going on this year. The problem you have is you need to return in the peak period, i usually aim to return after 15th Jan to take advantage of the price drop, but then i go for six weeks.

I have looked and if you do not mind a stopover of 1hr on the way over in Hong kong and a 12 hour on the way home it is below.

It is flying with Air New Zealand and Cathy so good carriers.

Not sure on the cheaptickets? You would have to look in to them, but they are a familiar turn up on my searches. I just always book with Eva now and collect my miles.

    Good luck.

Virgin do not fly their own planes to Bangkok, but they have their code VS on some Singapore Airlines flights, which can sometimes be cheaper.
Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.
  • Ok, you need to fly from Heathrow to Hong Kong. You get the boat (its like a transfer and only takes an hour) to Macau airport where you get Air Asia to Bangkok. My tickets came to less than £450 each. The flight to HK is straight through so no hanging around ( Qatar make you hang around in Doha for 10 hours, so you can do the journey quicker this way also). If you do not fancy this then try kayak and get your journey on buzz and you will get an email daily. My mates paid over £800 from Manchester but my other mate booked last week for £650. However, if I were you Hong Kong is the ticket. Good luck

Surely students on a budget could think up a cheaper (and more original) way to enjoy Christmas, rather than flying thousands of miles to peak season in one of the best-known holiday areas in the world. The Mediterranean is very pleasant at that time of year. And if you want tropical sunshine, what's wrong with Cabo Verde, or even Gambia?

Where did he say he was anywhere near Heathrow? And where will he get flights on boxing day returning first week in January at the price you quote? Please give some examples.
Hong Kong can be a good route but not always. If you do go this route also look at Orient Thai Airways from Hong Kong to Bangkok instead of the Macau route. Depending on flight timings it can be more convenient and saves the cost of the trip to Macau.
  • Cheapest I can find, out 27th December, back 8th January is £724 from Gatwick with Emirates on netflights.co.uk There is unlikely to anything much cheaper, people book these seats months and months before departure. Everyone may not want to fly out on 27/12 but they do want to come back in the first two weeks of Janauray
  • Air New Zealand LHR - HKG 26th Dec for 10 days is £465. Kayak.co.uk. I paid £378 with BA but am going before christmas and back 10 Jan. I go to visit my my bro who lives in Thailand and find the whole trip cheaper than spending christmas in the UK, saving on heating, food, petrol and cigarettes. Beleive it or not I save money. Luckily I am a gardener and can off set my carbon footprint by planting thousands of trees in Nov.

Just entered your dates into Kayak and it looked good - redirected to cheaptickets.com and still looked good at $894 US. Selected the flights and oh dear! You're price has just increased to $1,855. Chancers!!

I'm out there for Christmas too but travel from Scotland so if you add on £100 this end to get to LHR and £100 from HKG to BKK (guess) my price doesn't seem so bad. £378 is good especially if you're off in the week leading up to Christmas. I'm leaving earlier to try and keep the flight price down.
