Just had an email from paypal saying my account has been given limited access due to a suspicous transaction. Just logged in (via typing in name as there were no links on email) and yes there was a $15.99 to some computer place in the US. Asked me to validate my bank account no., and change my security settings and then reported the transaction. Got a automated email stating they are looking into it and it should be refunded ASAP. Kinda worried. Does this happen a lot? Got AVG and zone alarm so not sure how its happened

Did you click on a link to get to paypal, did they name you by name or was it "dear paypal user"?0 -

I never trust ANY email from eBay or Paypal, I always log in via my shortcut and have a look, I hope you've not been phished! There are 10 types of people in the world; those who understand binary and those who don't...0

Am I reading a different post to everyone else?

I read the same as you superscaper, as I was just about the chuck the laptop across the room, if one more person wrote another comment like that!
It actually sounds more genuine, as there were no links in the email, which is something a phisher would not do!A friend is someone who understands your past, believes in your future, and accepts you just the way you are.0 -

I was thinking the same.
I sure some people either don't bother reading before posting or do so on purpose. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -
Thanks for all the replys guys
Just to confirm, the email seems to be legit from paypal stating that they had spotted suspicious activity on my account and that it had been restricted
I therefore logged in using explorer and typing in the address (indeed there were no links on the email anyway), and then logging in as usual
I then changed my security settings as requested and then by looking at recent account activity found a dodgy payment of US15.99 to some dragon computer store
Therefore reported it and have an automated response from paypal stating that they have requested proof of purchase from the dragon place and once its confirm as suspect the money will be returned
I can only therefore assume that whoever has made the payment to themselves from my account doesn't have my password, or at least has done something in a non-normal way (for example I didn't get any automated 'thankyou for paying......' email) which has somehow triggered paypal's fraud checking system
Had a look at that anti-paypal site which was suggested a few replys back and its pretty scary stuff.0
