Yes there is an account number I put in to get into the ASDA account manager website.
This is different from the number on my ASDA credit card.

There is also a bit about 3D secure but I haven't got that far yet.

So whether the top line should be the ASDA account no or the ASDA card no I don't know.

You're right the top no can't be for "my" bank account can it,as they only need my debit card no.

Wonder if ASDA have a phone no to make the debit card payment by phone ?

I noticed the Mastercard option not long after I opened my Asda card.
You just need to be careful it's not classed as a cash advance. I don't think it is though as I remember reading a post on here quite a while back from somebody who paid it off using another Mastercard credit card.

I've not tried it myself as I just pay it off by Direct Debit as it's easier. I have thought about using my Egg Money card though to get the cash back on top of the fuel discount etc, but keep forgetting to try it out.

I've not got an ASDA account, just read this thread to see what was being said about it. I have Home Shopping Direct though (shopping company), and that is giving me the option to pay my credit account using my Mastercard.

I'm thinking of testing it and reporting back what happens, but I’m worried too that it may show up as a cash advance. Would it show up any differently in online banking if it's counted as a cash advance rather than a purchase? (I’ve never used the card for anything other than purchases) Or would I just have to wait and get the statement?

I used my credit card to pay my very catalogue account and it showed up as a purchase on my CC statement.

I've used my cc to pay my asda card and it was classed as a purchase. It's now changed the mastercard entry has gone from payment options. Also i've noticed they have made it dead hard too understand how to make a payment. I gave up and paid via online banking.

Thanks :). I was hoping that would be the case, as if it uses the same payment mechanism as the main website then the Mastercard issuer can't tell the difference :)

Mate the majority of catalogues actually take payment (JD Williams does) as purchases, in essence you purchased the goods and never paid, then at a later date you make payment. Your bank does not pick this up as a cash transaction, cos it isn't. So in summary, the majority of storecards and catalogues accept credit cards and charge them as a purchase.

Similarly, if you pay a credit card with another credit card a few will show it as a purchase - you can get Mastercard Debit Card now (Yorkshire Bank will be changing shortly).... :D

I thought it was some kind of loophole. Because JD Williams want the money from me and so by using a debit card I'd have paid instantly, by using a credit card I'd have another month!

That's interesting with the credit cards, Capital One don't accept Mastercard :( That's why I thought it was a loophole when I saw that JD do

That is a loophole, if you like - you can go online to JD and pay at any time, so what you do is go online the day you get your CC statement and pay the JD balance with the CC - this clears the JD balance and gives you until the next statement date to repay the CC before interest is charged....

Basically, JD williams (as do most catalogues) deduct everything as purchases, whether you pay using visa, mastercard or debit card :D

Haha yea that's what I'm trying to do, but I haven't had a statement so don't know when to pay. Hopefully I can push it to 19th Jan (or about then) as my Natwest statements are normally generated on 19th/20th, then I wouldn't pay until 13th March....for 2 things I got in November :rotfl:

Is this the same £25 you owe to JD Williams mate? If so, just log-in and pay it hahahaha

I usually get my statement last week of month and pay on 5th of next month (i.e. statement dated 22/11 and paid 5/12)

JD never just charge a late fee - they always write allowing to to pay by the next statement date before they add a charge. I was in Cuba (October) and forgot to clear my £170 balance and never paid! Middle of November I got a reminder saying a charge will be added if I do not pay by the next statement date - I paid that day!

No fee was ever added, only interest at about £4. :D

But in the case of £25 mate, just go in and pay it lol - tight sod!! :rotfl:

Haha :p. Good to see they are flexible though! :)

I would love to....slight problem though! Both my credit cards are maxed out, and I have £100 until Student Finance decide to pay me (apparently it's Tuesday, but I don't trust them!!). £71 credit card bill from Capital One coming through Monday, and if I go below they certainly will be charging me! And I wouldn't get my increase! The £29 remaining I need to actually get to uni next week :p. So JD can wait a while for their £27.50 :rotfl:
