CD-ROM will not start

Hi i just got my stuff through to start open university, really pleased :j
they have given me a cd-rom to load some software on but when i put the disk in nothing happens , is there a way to start it automatically i have search all over my pc and cant find any way to do it. I have windows vista if that helps.

double click my computer then find the cd drive and right click it
Select autoplay from the drop down menu, if thats not there double click the cd rom icon and that will open up the CD rom in an explorer window.

Programs, Accessories, Windows Explorer.
Navigate to My Computer and then do what SD said.0 -
i have windows vista basic, i can do programes, accessories , windows explorer. but theres is no my computer on the list0

Sorry, I was just editing my post to apologise for not noticing that you already said you had Vista!
If you open Windows Explorer and then keep clicking the Up button you will should get to My Computer.
If your CD/DVD does not appear there you may have to do some further troubleshooting, but hopefully it won't come to that...0 -
just thought i should say i have a cd dvd disk drive so maybe cd roms wont play on here?0

Should play fine on your PC DVD player/writer or whatever it is

they normally start automatically, but this one hasnt for some reason, i cant find any solution on the net , why i havent got my computer i just dont know , am i the only one this isnt fair, looks like im gonna have to take it to a repair shop, thankyou for trying to help me though.0
