Hi,
I want to take some decent broadband (I have mobile broadband and it's crap, look forward for my contract to expire).
I don't have a landline, but there is someone who has a landline in the house where I live. Can I make a broadband contract on my name without having a landline on my name?
what does he have to lose (it's the phone line busy while I use the Internet or something like that?) ...
I don't need a landline for any other purpose than to have broadband (I have a mobile phone contract with minutes) so I would prefer to pay half of my housemates line rental that to pay full line rental for myself...
I saw on O2 website for example this: You must have the landline account holder's permission to receive broadband on this line ... so in theory it should be possible...

Hi,
I have setup the o2 broadband in my name on my Mums's telephone line. (at a different address)
The contract is in my name, but the payments for the service come from her bank account, via direct debit.
I have done this so that she can take advantage of the reduced ADSL cost that o2 offer, as I have an o2 contract phone, and she does not.
When I spoke to o2, they said I could install "my" broadband anywhere, but of course I could only have one installation, and if I cancel my o2 phone contract, the broadband cost would chnage to its normal cost.
At no point in the ordering process did they request confirmation from my mother to have my broadband installed on her line.
I have a company supplied BT broadband at home so did not have a reason to take advantage of the o2 broadband..
ps the whole ordering and installation of the o2 broadband was very efficient and simple,

Hi, A Broadband order can be placed on any suitable telephone line it does not need to be the broadband bill payers line...although permission of the line rental account payer needs to be confirmed by you....the ISP will probably not care so long as you can provide the full address and post code.
Broadband will not interfere with the line and the line can be used for telephone calls while you surf the internet very easily. They will not get a busy signal as.. Broadband piggybacks on the line. Paying half the line rental seems fair....does your flatmate not fancy Broadband...you could go wireless and both of you share the line cost and the broadband cost

As long as it works properly the line will not be impacted but any fault on the line, exchange or filter and it CAN cause a problem with telephony voice services on the line.0
