Thank you for the soup and satsuma ideas - much appreciated! I made some soup last night and it tastes nicer than i was expecting and I'll have a look for the ake recipe. I don't have any ground almonds in but migt be able t adapt it using flour. We have a bottle of cointreau, so could add some of that as you suggested.

    Thanks again!

If you have any other kind of almonds, you can whizz them in the liquidiser to make them 'ground'. ;)

Or the shops are open if you can get to one! I realise there's a danger of spending a small fortune on everything else, which may be a problem. I'd get round that by sending a Boy, with full instructions. Ground almonds. No, they won't be with the peanuts. Try by the baking ingredients. Try asking someone! Flaked or blanched will do at a pinch. But that pre-supposes you have a Boy you can evict from his bed to send. :rotfl:

    Hi everyone

I've been making a (huge) list of everything in my kitchen and have come across some stuff in the freezer past it's BB date.
    • Half bag of cheese and onion rolls (unbaked) - Oct 08
    • 1 box Morrisons Chicken breast bites - Oct 08
    • 400g Minced Beef - been in freezer since June 08  (bought non-frozen)
    • 200g Back Bacon (bought frozen) - December 08
My mother keeps telling me it will all be fine for ages after the sell by, but i'm not so sure, the first 2 were bought frozen and the expiry was based on it being frozen!

    I hate wasting though :o

    Can anyone advise?

I'm with your mother. Unless your freezer has defrosted and refrozen a few times, things will be absolutely fine for years. They MAY start to deteriorate slightly, eventually, but I honestly don't think you'll notice yet.

Thanks, the feezer has been steady away and no long power cuts or anything. Just not sure about the mince, i thought June 08 would be pushing it  I'll defrost it and see if it smells. Will it even smell?

Another question - sometimes if i leave a box of say... chicken nuggets or potato waffles in the freezer and cook them they smell like they've been in the cardboard too long, is this normal or is my freezer set too high or something?

I am not sure what you mean by 'smelling like they've been in the cardboard too long', but I always put things into a plastic bag after I've opened the box, to avoid 'freezer burn', ie things start to deteriorate slightly if they aren't protected from the air in the freezer.

Does that make any sense?

Yes, freezer burn sounds a more appropriate description :D

Make perfect sense, thank you, i'll do this from now on.
