    i would.

the worst that could happen would be that it tastes SLIGHTLY different, and unless you have a super boff in the house, who would actually taste the hint of sandlewood in a bottle of wine i expect that no on would notice...

    good luck. :):):)

Best Before only means the product is at its best before x date, and will still be useable - but not at it's absolute best - until its Use By date.

    Go for it...
    Man plans and God laughs...
Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.
  • Just popped by to say a thanks to elf, notjustlaura and olliesbeak- I'm glad it wasn't just me being a domestic goddess disaster!
Will stuff knits in a pillowcase and request yarn label if I ever dare to WM them again- otherwise handwash all the way.

    Thanks so much guys :D
  • Hi Nimbo,
errata has given the most succinct and accurate answer you'll need, but I just wanted to add ramblings - you don't have to read them though!

I'm a great believer in my own senses. Marketing and advertising know how much we respond to visual and olfactory cues (think handsome models, pretty colours/packaging, fresh coffee, bread baking, etc etc). So.... instead of these senses being exploited to make you try and spend money... use them to quality control your fridge/storecupboard items and save money.
Does the sauce look ok, does it smell ok?
It makes economical sense (and legal sense) for companies to encourage you to throw stuff out and buy more- otherwise you may buy less, or worse, get food poisoning and sue.

If you haven't got babies, ill or elderly to feed one could take a gamble and go quite far past the use by date if you're brave... but as my disclaimer stick within the use by to be uber safe.

it's a best before - so i know technically i could use it, but it's now 14 months over it's date.

it it were a few months i wouldn't think twice, i think the fect that i feel this hesitant might mean oi'm not brave enough to take the plunge.

    Hello.

You might get a better response from the gardening thread, if you haven't been on there already.

I grew dahlias from seed for the first time this year and, I must confess, haven't lifted them yet, so I'm not the best person to advise on this. I have some that I grew from tubers the previous year, though, which I lifted and kept in the shed over winter so they didn't get too cold or damp. These tubers split into sections when I went to plant them out this spring and each one grew into a dahlia plant, but I don't know if you get the same effect if you break them or cut them up deliberately.

Good luck with them - I hope you get lots of nice flowers next year. :)
Back after a very long break!
