    Hi topbargainhunter!

We are all nice on here encouraging away in little babysteps if needed!

There is no way I would have cleared so much out and sold so much without finding this thread It would never have crossed my mind.

A big thanks to everyone who posted from the start to now. It is inspiring for me in many ways. Don't refill the cluttered spaces!

I need a cull of bedlinen - especially the threadbare stuff!

don't we all - this is my particular 'dark secret' as I'm pretty ruthless in all other areas of decluttering, but years ago my husband worked for a top bedlinen company - they made gorgeous, high-count cottons - just lovely, and we got tons of it, very cheap. I have a huuuuuge trunk full of stuff still in its wrappers. Everything we got was from the cheap bins in the factory shop, or non-european sizes or extremely LOUD design or the stuff that was left at the end of the sale, so not much of it would necessarily have been my first choice - the kids hated it because it was just so strong in design and often didn't fit properly, but I've hoarded it for years on the grounds that they will always need bedlinen when they leave home. So, now they're living away - do they want it? Not a chance - they hate it. I could easily re-linen my whole house with what's sitting unopened in the trunk, and what's in the airing cupboard has buttons or poppers missing, or slightly frayed seams etc etc, yet I still keep using it. Now and again I have a good sort out, but I don't really make much of a dent in it because I'm too tight to fling it while it has a scintilla of life left in it yet, and because, deep down, I think the kids will be grateful for the new stuff I've hoarded for them. One day, maybe, one day!!:rotfl:

I've never posted to this thread but used to read the original "enough is enough" thread for de-cluttering inspiration, and have just read this one from start to finish over several weeks. I'd just like to say thanks to everyone who posts on behalf of us lurkers, and to comment on how lovely you all sound and are never judgemental to anyone. :A

I don't often post, I just read this site for tips and ideas, but when I did feel compelled to post about Ebay's policy on compulsory free postage for some categories the other day (which I believe is unfair) I got several snippy comments from people saying basically put up or shut up, stop moaning, not the attitude I was expecting from this site at all. I won't be posting on the Ebay threads again, I can tell you.

Anyway, just wanted to thank you all for being such an inspiration, I've put lots of clutter up for sale as a result of this thread, rather than just saying I'll do it later. The place is looking much nicer already. :T

    welcome tbh

Welcome to the thread and happy decluttering! I am terrified of posting on the eBay thread after asking what I thought was a straightforward question about paypal! Much more supportive over here:T

:hello: Hi, I too have been a lurker for a while and I'd also like to join in please.

I've read a couple of articles recently that said that a cluttered home / working area creates a cluttered mind and I tend to agree. I find it really hard sometimes to get motivated with the housework as there is just so much to move out of the way before you even start. :o

So having read this thread for a while now I have found the motivation I need from you all to have a go myself... trouble is how do you deal with an OH wants to keep everything 'just in case' do you have any tips as to persude him to clear things out??

This week I have sorted out paper work ready for filing or shredding, given a bag of clothes to the charity shop (although I rescued one item that I thought I could re-vamp :o) and put out two full boxes of recycling

I too would like a minimalist home.... ha ha one day........ :rotfl:
  • you've just got to start with baby steps....
