Hi all
Need some motivation to declutter my house I am a full time student and also a single parent with an 8 year old daughter. We rent a nice house but over the years the stuff has just piled up and looking at it makes me want to just shut the door and run away. It is hard to know where to start. Sometimes I feel I am painting the fourth bridge as the jobs never seem to get any less but today is day one of my decluttering I will let you know how I get on any advice on where to start would be greatly appreciated.
thanks all

Hi moneytree,
I too find decluttering a bit overwhelming so try to do it in bitesize bits doing a little bit every day....even if it's one drawer or cupboard it will make you feel so much better when you do it.
There is a current thread has lots of hints and tips on decluttering that should help.

You'll get lots of support from the regulars on that thread so I'll add your thread to it later to keep the posts together.

I'd choose to focus on the one room which would really make a difference, and then just tackle it for half an hour at a time. It's surprising how quickly you can really make a difference! That is then a real incentive to keep going. I'm now down to just three areas which still look really bad - our bedroom, the dining-room and the smallest bedroom. The rest is OK and can look good in just a few minutes! I'm determined to get these areas under control this summer. Good Luck!Resolution:

When you've de-cluttered are you going to have stuff to ebay/car boot - may be you can treat yourself and DD - any chance of her helping de-cluttering and dusting at the same time - with me I started DD getting rid of stuff about that age - stuff she admitted she didnt want any more :-) and those things she could keep the money from. we de-cluttered (so we could see the floor) of her bedroom the other week - why teenagers need bits of cardboard is beyond me - Good luck :-)0

honestly I know where your coming
from with this,do what we have done
take 3 bin bags maybe a cardboard box
for heavier things books etc
1 for rubbish
1 for clothes fabrics etc
1 for bric brack books etc
1 for recycling
take books brica brac to charity shop
rubbish in the bin outside
one in the recycling
then stop
do this every day or a few times for a week
or two and or more weeks, you will shift some junk
and not feel so bogged down trying to tackle
it all at once.
if its in the kitchen first job before anything
clear and clean the sink, sounds mad but your
kitchen will seem 25% better just for this.
above all BE LETHAL ! and let it go:j:j:j0
