Pooh, I make Maids of Honour, which are posh tarts:
Make the tarts up with different jam middles then add cake mix on top (there are several recipes in this thread), then bake in the same oven temp as for cupcakes. That way you could add em to packed lunches as snacks instead of biscuits.

Hi, I haven't quite dared try nettle or dandelion myself but I'm a wimp! My tip would be to introduce a very small amount and not rush it. I don't think my son realises even now how much he likes garlic, but there's a smidgeon of it in chicken nuggets, which he likes. They say it takes a number of tastings for us to grow accustomed to new tastes, so if you take it slowly it may be worth it for the long-term rewards.
Blackberries - blackberry & apple crumble.Blackberry & apple anything really - jam, cobbler, probably wine. If you are adding them to muffins, you could try stewing them in a drop of water and sugar first, just lightly, & draining well.
Elderflowers - in fritters or with lemon in sorbet (beware, they're strong!). I seem to remember the fruit is early autumn. Make it into wine, or add a bit to fruit mixes for crumble, etc. I think they're one of those things NOT to eat raw.
I am in awe of your wild cherries - what do they taste like?Miggy

I am not sure if you would still be able to do the 50p a day thing, as the start of this thread is almost 2 years ago....
But 80p a day is possible...
Check out this thread LINKY
Also CHEAP FAMILY RECIPES might be of use to you as well0 -
Thanks guys quite intrigued by idea its 2adults and 2children here.
wonder if anyones costed per head they spend on every family member per day.
even sainsburys feed family 4 fiver seems pricey as 35quid a week just on dinner wouldent include household, toilietries, brecakfast, drinks, snacks and lunch.
Already on preservers year fab thead.
My cherry find overwhelming as about 20trees locally never noticed them before.
some branches too high to reach.
currently have 1litre tubs as been disiplined and picked daily.
hubby says they tasted like shop brough cherries and daughters like them.
blackberries no where near ready but in abundance.
last of elderflowers started too late got champers brewing and some in freezer to try cordial.Think i should try come up wit something to do with elderberries as they availiable and free.

You're misunderstanding the Feed for a Fiver - the £5 is the total cost to buy all the ingredients. For instance, you might need to buy a whole packet of pasta but just use half - you then have pasta left for another timeAFAIK, it's the same with most of the recipes, so you can use bits from your storecupboard and it'sll cost you less than £5, or you spend the £5 and start to build a store.

come on over to the thread NoPot posted Gailey, it's fab. I have picked up lots of ideas
Over the last four months I have reduced our food spends to between £1.26 and £1.49 per person per day. It could easily be less than that but we like to have lots of fresh fruit & veg
I used elderberries many years ago as a direct replacement for currants. They freeze well, and if you have the facility, would dry. They are around at roughly the same time as blackberries0 -
Hello,
Just spent all week reading Weezl's initial thread and am now full of inspiration, and also had a great laugh! Don't think I can manage reading through all of the 50p a day challenge threads but hoping to join in at some point!
Thanks!
