Hi everyone, here it is then - being a member of the 4k I can do frugal!
We are also hoping to ask people for their skills in place of presents - we have OH's step uncle to do the ceremony and my lovely godmother for the flowers so far. We're hoping to have a marquee next September time. We wanted to get married outside but this is illegal in England :rolleyes:so we're having an official ceremony somewhere then the 'proper' one outside - we're hoping to have this in a place very special to us (where OH used to take me to sit when I was ill; gradually I could take a few steps, walk a bit further and now I can run/walk the 5-mile circuit :j) Unfortunately marquees aren't so frugal it seems but it means we can have something very personal and individual to us :j I'm hoping to use LETS to get some other things sorted too :T It is tricky trying to organise from so far away but it needs doing, as I won't have loads of time once we're home. And I won £5 on the free scratchcards today so that's gone straight in my Wedding Dress FundIt's going to be a magical day, I'm so excited already! :j

Bails, sounds good to me.
I had a budget wedding in 2003. Cant remember what I spent, but we had a lovely room in the Registary, which had french doors that opened out onto a beautiful lawn, so lovely pictures. The reception room was in a local football club, where I had been a member of the committee and had worked the bar, so they gave me the room for free. My daughters friends did the DJing. I made the dresses, mine and the bridesmaids. We hired the grooms/best mans things, and I made the favours, and the table centres etc. All from very simple things. My Mum made my bouquet out of silk flowers bought on a market.!
We had a lovely wedding. (Just a pitty the marraige didnt last!!).
Infact I still have the wedding dress hanging up in the hallway. Anyway, I digress a little.
Good luck to you all. When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -

Hi everyone, great ring Elfin (and do I take it great future hubby too ISOM?! :rotfl:)
I've set up a thread here to chat about my wedding plans if you're interested x
Thanks Bails, and yes, that is a picture of future hubby's hand too
Have had a peep at your new thread, wow, lots of organisation and lots of tips - great stuff :T0 -
Me and OH need to get married at some point otherwise all sorts of problems will come about because of inheritance tax - we've only been together 32 years, so no hurry!!!
The idea of asking for skills for the wedding instead of presents is fab, I really like that idea. I'll come over and see you Bails on your thread to see what you are planning. We really must get round to it before it's too late (don't want to be morbid, but you never know)0 -
ISOM - Pea and mint soup sounds lovely do you have a recipe to share? Or is it a bit like my soup making - bung bits in the pan, cover with stock, cook & blitz the result
I made a lovely celery and potato soup yesterday. In a large pan I put a whole head of 2 week oldcelery, a large onion, about 3 big potatoes, salt & pepper and covered with stock. Once it had cooked I blitzed it and the result was velvety smooth, really tasty and not too expensive :T DS1 & DS3 have both had chest infections so it's a bit of a build them up soup when they want to eat. I got the idea watching The Balamaloe Cookery School on a free satelite channel called Horse & Country a few months ago. They have a system for soups with one cup of onion, two cups of potato, 4 cups of base veg & stock to cover so it'll work with anything I would imagine.
Well now I have rambled on I'll merely say CONGRATULATIONS Bails & Elfin :happyhear :happyhear what lovely news to cheer up the dark nights!
we happened to have pea and mint soup yesterday. It's a recipe I've used for years and years. No idea where it originally came from. Here it is anyway
Simmer 500g peas for 20 minutes in a litre of water with 2 chicken, ham or veg stock cubes, or proper stock if you have it.
Add a teaspoon fresh or dried mint and half teaspoon sugar. Mix 25g flour with about 250ml any kind of milk and stir quickly into pea mix - quickly so it doesn't go lumpy, although the whizzing will get rid of the lumps anyway.
Whizz with a stick blender or in a liquidiser and adjust s+p. Makes 4 generous servings
Have tried this using half peas and half courgette from the garden and all carrots, both versions pretty good.0
