Congratulations all around!. Its good to see some good news about.

Talking of weddings and babies, I have a few sewing ideas for working on the next few days. I have wedding veil stuff still in the cupboards, and also could be making some of the ring pillows, and the clutchbags I used to make years ago, when I had a proper business making wedding dresses. I am sure I have some left over fabrics and could practise. Bit of track, butall this talk of weddings and new babies gets me wanting to create.
Want be part of a 50p challenge though.
Although I am using up some soup mix, from my catering days. 37g of mix makes 6 portions of soup. So there are probably about 3 months worth of soup in the tin.
    Thats my lunches sorted out.
When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.
  • Had yummy pea and mint soup today so going to see if I can create sommat and will report back (but it wont be for a week or so - no getting excited please!) and have put myself down for £60 for nov grocery budget!

ISOM - Pea and mint soup sounds lovely do you have a recipe to share? Or is it a bit like my soup making - bung bits in the pan, cover with stock, cook & blitz the result ;):p

I made a lovely celery and potato soup yesterday. In a large pan I put a whole head of 2 week old :o celery, a large onion, about 3 big potatoes, salt & pepper and covered with stock. Once it had cooked I blitzed it and the result was velvety smooth, really tasty and not too expensive :T DS1 & DS3 have both had chest infections so it's a bit of a build them up soup when they want to eat. I got the idea watching The Balamaloe Cookery School on a free satelite channel called Horse & Country a few months ago. They have a system for soups with one cup of onion, two cups of potato, 4 cups of base veg & stock to cover so it'll work with anything I would imagine.

Well now I have rambled on I'll merely say CONGRATULATIONS Bails & Elfin :happyhear :happyhear what lovely news to cheer up the dark nights!

How about a new thread maybe?

When are you thinking of getting married? I'm just at the start of planning mine too, it'd be nice to share any tips. Any ideas so far of what you'd like? (and this quite possibly needs a new thread too :rotfl: - maybe we could have a 'Bails and Elfin chat' thread? :D)

Thank you everyone for all your congratulations!!

We haven't picked a date yet - need to see our vicar this weekend, but we are planning on next summer, perhaps June. What about you? Must be difficult to think about planning when you are on another continent!

It will definitely be an Old Style wedding, ceremony in our village church (which we attend anyway) and then walk 200 yards up the lane to our house, for a party in the garden. Marquee on the lawn, bunting, locally sourced food, and cream teas. Our idea is to ask our friends and family to provide skills, time or soemthing else towards the wedding rather than presents - we really don't need stuff! And we are very lucky, between us we know people with all sorts of skills, photographer, jeweller, DJ, vintage car, musicians, all sorts!

For the kind of people we are this is perfect, it seems much more personal than a wedding at a 'venue', which is not only expensive, but probably just like the wedding the next person will have the day after.

I have never started a thread - I imagine there is already an OS wedding thread? But I kinda like knowing the people here...
  • Congratulations Elfin - do we get a piccy of the ring?!! So chuffed for you!

I do wonder whether we should start a new thread along the lines of weezl wannabe thread - what do people think...or we could just keep chatting on here weezless?

I have no idea how to post a picture...:o but if someone could tell me?

I like the idea of the Weezles Wannabes thread! We could chat about babies, weddings and all sorts of other frugal things aside from food without feeling guilty, and still keep the same lovely feeling we have here!

Well that sounds like a nice type of wedding to me - simple but meaningful and asking for people to give "skills" rather than gifts - well thats obviously something I thoroughly approve of:T It sounds like its going to be a good day for all concerned.:D
