Tesco - Tesco Wholefoods popping corn maize 500g 98p
Asda - Dunns River natural popping corn 500g 67p, Asda Wholefoods popping kernals 1kg £1.98
    Sainsburys - Cypressa popping corn 500g 63p

Has anyone seen any popping corn cheaper than this (is it something that asian supermarkets would stock?)

I know this was posted awhile back but for anyone in the market for cheap popping corn last week i saw 500 gram bags on sale for bogof at holland and barrat, i think it was 99p for the bag so that's a really good deal!

i often pop in H&B for their specials (i don't shop there otherwise most of the time) when i was in last week i got a 500gram bag of soya flour for 99p (1 heaping tablespoon plus 1 tablespoon water is an egg substitute for baking) and they also had their savoury flavoured soya nuggets on sale for 99p 375g bag and natural soya mince 375g bag for 89p

i've not bought soya products like this in some time so i'm not sure if thats a good deal or not but it is certainly cheaper than mince so i thought i'd give it a try.

i've also been snatching up their 500g bags of banana chips for 1.39 as my daughter loves them... they can be pricey but their sales are pretty good so worth a check if you're near one

how about a kind of savoury vegetable crumble? Ratatouille base with crumbled scone topping and a little grated cheese and a couble of dabs of butter on the top then baked?

thinly sliced and dried in the oven on low heat to give a kinda melba toastish effect then serve with cheese and chutney?

blitzed and used to thicken a tuscan bean stew?:D

Announcement time - I'm coming round for dinner if anyone makes any of them....:D...after all every would-be supacook has to have a "second opinion". Always available for a second opinion me...;)

Yer see our weezl - you're just more imaginative than a lot of us (me included) about what to do with food...you come up with ideas which most of us wouldnt even think of....:D

...goes off muttering....."I'll encourage our Weezl to write a cookbook yet I will". Errrr....if you ever do our weezl...can I write the foreword...purlease...pretty please......?":D

Following the 'food for the soul' thinking, I find it incredibly difficult to say which 'religion' I am. I guess it's not the done thing to just pick out the best bits of the majority of them  but then again they do mostly have the same teachings.
More & more I think of this particular site as a "religion", in that so many people come here for basically the same reasons, looking for answers that come from so many sharing souls :D We share the same common goal to provide the best we can for us & our families given the resources we have to hand, whilst making the least impact on Mother Earth. This thread in particular let's us explore how we can achieve all of that, so long may it prosper!

There's a good quiz on the Beliefnet website if you ever feel so moved as to try and work it out BigMumma....'course you could always end up getting the sorta answer I got when I filled it in....99% Buddhist, with distinct Pagan leanings (think that was about 90%) and a dash of "liberal Christian" thrown in.....well, actually, that summed me up purty well...;):D...but heck why bother about "sticking a label on it"? Does it matter ultimately? - as long as one tries to take "T'other Side of Things" into account? (probably...errrr....certainly miserably failing at regular intervals (I WILL deal with my temper yet....I will...honest)...but hey we're all human...).

    Beliefnet is on:

    http://www.beliefnet.com

It covers all "faiths" and is well worth a look methinks..Personally I rather like the "The Lord is my Shepherd" link they have on the homepage...tho' I'm not a Christian..

The "who are you?" quiz is:

    http://www.beliefnet.com/Entertainment/Quizzes/BeliefOMatic.aspx

and has been found to be very accurate actually by those I know who have tried it to date.

I was having a similar conversation with OH on the weekend. I'm very definatly atheist and feel uncomfortable around organised religion, yet I find especially in recent times with the economic climate that I'm missing out on the support and community that an organised religion would offer. In recent months there has been a lot of talk in the media, amoungst friends/family, on forums that we need to change our attitudes in life, that material goods are not a right, that responsibilty is something that seems to have been forgotten (see MP Expenses scandal!) etc etc. I find that there are, as ever lots of people saying what we shouldn't be doing but no-one saying what we should be doing. I can't see a public figure who is leading by example as I would imagine a leader of an organised religon would (reverand, iman, rabbi, priest etc). I want to be part of a community that will support each other and lead by example to how a moral person should live their life. I want to have that knowledge that there are people there for me but I don't want to go to church!!!!! I need an atheist church, I guess until I find it I shall have to continue to worship at the altar of MSE!

.....cor that was a bit deep wasn't it!?

....and then of course you could see if there are any "interfaith" things going on around you.....I think there is more of that "reaching out to each other" going on at present from what I can see.

....and if you are aware/concerned about Peak Oil - then you could always find out if your local Transition Movement group has a "Heart and Soul Group" - as one of the things we are doing in these groups is trying to grope our way towards finding what we all have in common with each other in that respect...in mine so far I have identified: Christian, pagan, Buddhist and Zoroastrian..there may well turn out to be others yet....there is an "unspoken agreement" to show respect for each others beliefs...thats a start....

well goodness me what a lovely open discussion about different faiths...my own feeling is that we all have the right to choose and no right to tell others what they choose....while I attend (and am a member) of a church also recognise that no church, like its congregation, is perfect...there be good, bad and ugly in all of us!
as for cookies noooooooo...have had a disasterous week diet wise so will make up for it next week and try and actually do some cooking of healthier food...as for offall...I just cant...it tastes too bloody! When weezl and I met (only a year ago but seems so much more now!) she was telling me about this revolting recipe made with blood...eeeew! Happy to assist in adventures (think pigs head for those that recall!) but eating some of them is beyond me! If it wasnt for sausages & bacon could be a veggie but am currently trying to convince new boss who has small holding and free field that a team piggie or two would be fab...rest of team are less enthused about eating it mind - they want it as a pet but I'm all for sunday lunch!! welcome delurkers! lovelyto "meet" you...!

Oh well...couldnt resist...just been back to Beliefnet and gone through another of their quizzes...the one about "Whats your spiritual type?"...and another spot-on hit for the result. In my case "spiritual straddler" - ie one foot in traditional religion and one in free-form spirituality. Dead right again. Think they've worked their quizzes out very well I do..:D Got that one in one - on the one hand if I see a monk or nun near me (Christian or Buddhist) - then buying any refreshment for me means I automatically get some for them as well...the thought doesnt even arise as to whether to - I buy 2 lots of refreshments automatically and give them one. On the other hand - I've attended Pagan/Sikh/Jewish/Buddhist and more "all-purpose" things in my time - as well as the religion I was brought up in (ie Christian).....so...yep....dead on the button that quiz was too. I can quite happily do a bit of pagan ritual on the one hand and sit and listen to a bit of plainsong on the other hand...its the intention/feelings behind it that concerns me...not the form.

Driven by my curiousity I did the same quiz and came out with the same result. I thought it described me well, one small toe in traditional religion, one foot in free form spirituality and the rest of the foot in no mans land! :D
