Woo hoo Im back lol
First things first... Has anyone seen the electric jam pan thingy in lakeland?
http://www.lakeland.co.uk/tefal!REG-electric-jam-maker/F/keyword/jam+pan/product/12613
only I have just seen them in the supermarket here on sale at €50 / £40 when they are £79.99 in lakeland  .... Im sooooo tempted to get my mum one for a combined birthday/xmas pressy -she always made the best jam -but she has no need for big volumes anymore... as she will only give it away, which is lovely -but not saving her money... hmm what do folks think? Mind she wouldn't be able to have it until we go back to visit hmmmmm
they also had the tefal vita steam cuisine steamer that I have -@ €40 / £32 Its normally about £70....
Anyway I have done some stocking up - I was suprisingly pleased with the final amount -that supermarket is usually one where you come out with half what you want but have paid twice as much as you want  , I still need to get tuna, sweetcorn and some other bits but I like them from somewhere else
So we got:-- 12 tins baked beans (not the cheap ones-but they are yummy and you get far more beans in)
- 12 tins kidney beans
- 2 boxes pudding rice
- 2 bags par boiled rice
- big bag of lentils
- 5 bags fusilli
- 5 bags penne
- 2 spaghetti
- 2 bags pistatios
- 2 tins peanuts -treats for hubby
- 1 huge tin lentil n veg soup with bacon
- 2 huge tins of veg n ham soup
- 2 huge tins pineapple
- 2 huge tins peaches
- 2 jars of stewed apricots
- 2 jars stewed rhubarb
- 2 jars plums
- 2 packs butter
- 3 kilo apples
- 3 kilo oranges
- 10 kilo net of cabbage
- 10 kilo net potatoes
- 2 kilo net of leeks
- Pack of beasts/ox liver -for dinner tonight nomnomnom
- 16 andrex loo rolls
- oohhh and then they had some big buckets with lids on (i can't resist these lol) ...and in each there are 3 bottles fabric softener, 2 bottles washing up liquid, a surface spray and cleaning cloth -€5 / £4 ... so I got 2 :rotfl:
So my shelves in the basement are now straining under the weight yippee
right better go and get something done ..have a great day everyone-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -
Congratulations on the Baby, Weezl - hope all is going well!
I made a batch of rosehip syrup at the weekend, it turned out very well - very sweet and has a sort of orange/mango flavour. It is supposed to be very high in vitamin C. I used one third of wild rose hips and two thirds garden rose hips. I am sure there already recipes on here, but you just need 1kg rosehips, 3 litres of water and 1kg sugar. I chopped the rosehips in a food processor and just used ordinary granulated sugar.
We also picked several pounds of elderberries. I was going to make jam, but OH wanted to make wine. I think this has the best flavour of all home made wines.
There has been a good crop of wild blueberries this year, they are fiddly to pick, but I thought I'd give it a go as they are considered a "superfood". As I don't much like the flavour I mix them with blackberries which seems to work well. Earlier in the year I bought 2 plants from Woolworths, which will hopefully fruit next year. Blueberries always remind me of the Stephen King short story about the pie eating contest.
I am now off to look for a recipe for apple cake to use up some of the cooking apples we were given recently.0 -

ooo shiny new thread! Happy holidays weezles if you havent left yet...have a good week of rest and relaxation...
Mrs M jam thing looks tempting but expensive. Does your mum actually want one though - ya never know she may like giving things to people, even if it doesent save money?
Re the cooking chutney in a jam pan youre meant to do them separate..I almost killed my lovely brass jam pan by doing chutney in it but discovered just in time that I needed a metal pan for the chutney...I got mine at car boot and ebay for bargainous money! (about 10 each!). I also got another one which I sold at work for profit...my brass pan is one of my most loved possessions - possibly because it represents the new me...
Just making curry for a friend who is coming to lunch but must remember to take the brownies out of the freezer! Hoping to bribe with food to assist with the allotment...good luck with allotment and keep us posted. I love mine but have been a bit remiss of late...Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! Mrs Mc was looking at them yesterday in a leaflet but it doesn't say how much you can make in a batch any ideas?
