Thank you ceridwen for your kind & wise words. Your fourth paragraph made my hairs stand on end as I realised how closely your situation resembles my own; eerily closely. I suppose there is comfort in knowing that we are not alone & I too made the decision to leave the situation in the past & move forwards alone.

I shall definitely find a way of celebrating alone tomorrow & find some solace in that I chose this particular time to move forwards alone. Seems that's how it is meant to be.

Part of the whole simplifying & decluttering process must include leaving the past where it belongs & not dragging it along with us into the future if we are to be happy.

Thanks to all for the support

    ...

this is something I'm really struggling with at the moment too. I'm hoping that the changing of the year will help a little.

Sending out virtual hugs and positive thoughts to Ceridwen and Lula and anyone else who needs them

Aril, thanks for that beautiful verse, I'm off now looking at the Rune Cards you mentioned ....... (and I've only just managed to convince myself that I don't need another tarot set :D). I bought runes a long time ago and never really felt the time was right to try them, maybe I'll take your quote as a sign ;)

mary, I love Larkrise, what a lovely hour of escapism! I cried with Laura and with Minnie tonight ;)
... don't throw the string away. You always need string! :D

I also fell into the trap of believing someone to be so perfect and so 'right' for me that I had quite a shock when I realised my mistake. And at an age where I should have known that everyone has a 'shadow side'.

However it was a great wake up call. I have become far more self reliant. I have at last stopped validating my existence solely on what others think of me.

    How very true!

    Good morning everyone,

I've woken up to deep deep snow & it's just beautiful. Here in Surrey the schools are closed & all the children ( & their parents :D ) have been out playing, building snowmen & just having fun. Everyone is chatting to eachother rather than merely nodding as they head off to work - no one can get their cars moving anyway  .

Faith in humanity slowly being restored.

Charis, I'm pleased to hear of your renewed self reliance & self worth :A

The snow is coming down again now & I'm going to gaze out of the window & just enjoy the scenery :)

ceridwen - wise words as ever and Aril, what a beautiful quote........many thanks

rosieben - I felt very much like that last year and found many things difficult to let go of........but I did it.............I've still a way to go but at least now I feel I can deal with it a lot easier. It's not the simplest thing in the world to do though and I have found myself taking things out and putting them back again.
OH made me laugh watching Larkrise last night and commenting that the Post Office must be the first place ever to have a coal effect fire........lol

Lulu - pleased that you''re feeling better today. It's snowing here........white and bright ! I'm not a great lover of it I have to admit but from the safety of my little room I can see all the kids running down from school, overjoyed at being given the day off. Our young lad refused to go to school this morning -small act of defiance on his part and he was quite miffed to hear that the other children were being sent home anyway so his little bit of stubborness has fallen on stony ground. He's now off out in the snow with the rest...........lol
Any movement on the 9 drawer task ahead of you ? I've just ploughed through and tidied up my one card making drawer so I can actually see what I've got and it wasn't the big task I thought it would be thankfully.
What to do next ? Not sure............pictures ? No.........think I need OH around for a bit of guidance with those. Ummm............have some lunch and then decide I think.

Lula - I'd have done anything but clean the oven..................daren't even think about ours:eek: I'd send for Aggie and Kim but be too embarassed.................lol Get stuck into those drawers..........I'm dying to know whats in them.............9 !!! I just can't believe so many !..........lol

Had phone call from the school to say its closed tomorrow...........more of the dreaded white stuff on the way............just hope OH remembers to get everything I asked him to. Found this little verse in sunday supplement about Candlemas (today)

If Candlemas Day is clear and bright
    Winter will have another bite
If Candlemas day brings cloud and rain
Winter is gone and will not come again

Not sure how that fits in with todays weather.........we had blue sky and sunshine this morning -just for a little while and now its all a bit wet and white............

Not just the oven Mary - I also cleaned the bathroom & washed all the floors - my place hasnt looked this clean in years :o

I've had a quick glance in the drawers & to give you an insight :
top left : hardly opens as full of old payslips, & flat pack furniture instructions
top middle : almost empty apart from tissue paper :j
top right : pens, hole punchers & a stapler that to my knowledge has never ever had any staples in it & other writey type things
middle left : old school hymn books, clarice cliff style plate made by DD in reception & waiting to go on wall - she's now 9 :o
middle middle - crafty & card stuff :D
middle right - glass bottles & beads to decorate said bottles - circa xmas 2005 :o
bottom left : old videos
bottom middle : gold dishes & bowls ( xmassy bits etc)
bottom right : hama beads - millions of 'em, hundreds of millions of em, most inherited from nieces & now serving to cause immense pain when trodden on

It can all stay there for a while longer me thinks.... I feel the urge to clean windows now :D

Lula - sounds fascinating !! I'd much rather be doing that than bathrooms and windows -having said that mine are disgusting.............another Kim and Aggie job but I'm too embarassed...........lol

Ended up doing not much at all this afternoon except trying to trace folk on the 1911 census..........didn't get very far as all of a sudden I had to pay
Need to be spot on certain that the person I think I've found is the right one before I do that. When the 1901 census was available I found a whole family I thought were mine.............four years later I find out they;re not:rotfl:

Must have some sort of plan of action for tomorrow to stop me idling the hours away

  • I haven’t been about for a while, so I thought I would pop in for a catch-up with everyone. It has been great reading the posts from the newcomers; lovely to have new perspectives and ideas; and seeing what the regular simplifiers have been up to. I have been doing lots of Old Styling rather than Simplifying – building up a store cupboard; making meals from scratch and trying to make the best of what I have. In particular the Using Up Leftovers thread has caught my attention.

Found a good quote the other day, but have lost my link to it – the idea of it was that the best ingredient in a meal was imagination, which I thought was quite appropriate for just now.

I loved the reminders such as about Candlemas and Paganism – Does anybody have any website suggestions to find out more, as I don’t know very much about these and would love to read an interesting blog on it, if there are any. I am finding reading blogs is an enjoyable way of discovering new things.

Ceridwen – hope things improve for you soon. How is your Patio garden growing? I have managed to start off some cut and come again lettuces indoors – only the size of cress so far though, so a long way to go yet!

Thought you might appreciate this link which might be of use to anyone thinking of a different type of holiday in Britain (I am not connected to the company by the way).

    http://www.featherdown.co.uk/
It is a network of farms across Britain, offering tented accommodation on farms where you can even rent your own chickens while you are there; or your own smoker to smoke your food.(not the cigarette type of smoker!) I could just imagine everyone on Simplifying Life meeting in the outdoor kitchen/ room (just click through the slide show) to watch the world go by and swap ideas and Old Style thoughts. Reminded me of Ceridwen’s Yurt. Mine’s a cup of tea please, no sugar.

Mary43 - Sorry to hear that you and your OH have not been so well, hope your eyes are getting better too. Any news on your Mum?
Hope everyone stays safe in the snow,

    Best wishes,
    Greenshield
