Whilst I think about "winnowing" stuff a bit more. Does anyone want a copy of this book:
http://www.amazon.com/Illustrated-Hassle-Free-Make-Your-Clothes/dp/B0007C98OU
Ahem....cough....I've only been carrying it round with me since the 1970s - and its survived several moves I've made - but I've never used it yet - and somehows ...reskilling or no reskilling....I really cant see me getting round to making any clothes ever. Its as much as I can do to sew on a button or take up a basic hem.
so - if anyone wants a (very) hippy style make your own clothes book - caftans, waistcoats, etc - its in passable condition (ie a bit "mottled"). So - I'd like to stick to "takers" from Britain (to save on foreign postage costs...) - but if anyone wants a real hippyish "period piece" book outa interest - let me know.0 -
Thanks for the 'Dust' poems Firework - am going to send them to a friend who is unemployed (5 weeks) and totally bored. She gets up, cleans an already clean house everyday and doesn't know what else to do with herself. Have told her that life is "out there". She has 2 dogs who would love a good long walk, there are so many exhibitions/museums/art galleries she can go to for free, feel like using a virtual baseball bat and knocking some sense into her (I am the total opposite, clean but cluttered - if its a nice day - I'm off out, the housework will keep til a rainy day)
Ceridwen - charity shops will take good quality pillowcases if you have no other use for them.
I would love your 'hippy' clothes book if you're sure you don't want to keep it. Could you pm me how much you want for the book, and how much postage it will be please? Have been making my own clothes for years - mum started me with dolls clothes - does anyone remember the ones you used to be able to buy, already printed on the fabric ready to cut out?
(from an 'out-of date' hippy)When you get to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on

pagangirl..............you beat me to it with the book.................lol Mind you I'd probably never use it - sewing machine is defunct and I manage with hand sewing for what bit I do. Used to make loads of things in days gone by..........oh those were the times...............lol (I;m what they call an 'ageing hippie' I think...........lol)
Now its a case of clothes swap with my friend or charity shop or alter something I've bought -amazing what you can do. Think I picked it up from Mum and the Make do and Mend years when it was a case of having to make something out of next to nothing.
It's a shame your friend doesn't have a hobby of some sort. There are so many things can be done for next to nothing and fill the day up so quickly. I feel there aren't enough hours for me sometimes.........and thats without the odd bit of housework (and it is odd believe me..........lol)and the kids. But as you say there's a lot out there that's free to all and a waste if its not taken advantage of.
Finances were a bit stretched last year (to say the least) and I found it quite a challenge to make or concoct birthday and christmas pressies -at least those I didn't get from the charity shops that were ''unwanted gifts', But I did it and had a lot of fun in the process. I'm doing the same this year -well needs must - and I'm looking forward to it. :jMary

Re my clothes book - I've had several interested "takers" on and off thread - so 'fraid its now gone on a "first come first served" basis - so 'twill be en route once I have an address to send it to.
Pagan Girl - sorry that it had already gone - and I wouldnt have wanted anything for it - that Amazon page was just so people could see what its like.....0 -
Hi everyone,
many recycling places have a textiles bin & I used to put all unwanted/ worn out towels, teatowels & bedding in those before the local council started collected them weekly along with the glass, tins & paper.
I'm still looking at the 9 drawered chest & it's still looking at me :rolleyes:0 -
I gave some old towels and bedding to our local RSPCA kennels for their animals.
Nearly came home with a puppy though.NSK Zombie # SFD 7/15 Food Bank £0/£5

ceridwen - not surprised you had a lot of people interested in your book -glad its gone to a good home.
Lulu - 9 drawers !!!! I freak out looking at 4 !!! Even 2.........well today even 1 is daunting - its my card making drawer that I cleared out beginning of the year and lo and behold its full up and in a mess again !! Can't face it today though. Today is going to be a 'day of rest' as intended...........that''s my excuse anyway.
I have managed to sort out some stuff to send to the history society and put all my christmas 'projects; from last year in a folder so the days not totally wasted.
I did look at the pictures that need re-framing but that seemed to much of a task on the brain..........I'd only have ended up putting pictures in the wrong frames and not been happy with the result.......then I''d have to do it all again:eek:
Kitty - well done for having the will power not to take a puppy home - kittens are my weakness:rotfl:
Anyone had snow yet ? We've had a sprinkling followed by sunshine - but seems it's going to be here tomorrow - so they sayMary

Julie seems to have no idea what hobbies are, probably because she's spent most of her life working/bringing up one-parent family (3 kids)- now they are grown and she's jobless - has no idea what to do with her time. She is looking for another job, and has an interview on Tues so fingers crossed.................. I could never get bored - like you, there are never enough hours in the day for me - ask me about hobbies - erm, where do I start :rotfl:
Ceridwen - glad the book has gone to new home, no probs that it isn't mine !When you get to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on
