Simplifying Life - Mark II

Well both me and 0H have a thing about all things wooden and a few 'curios' that make life more interesting - just have to be careful it doesn't overtake us................lol So, whatever goes on the wall, something must come down and before I take the decorations down (0H refuses to shift them before 12th night) I need to re-assess whats going back in place of them. Not easy taskMary

Mary - anything counts towards simplifying - however small - its a step in the right direction - congratualtions on sorting your paperwork - if it was anything like mine - it certainly needed it !
Won't it be nice to be able to find something the first time we look for it???:DWhen you get to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on

My tip is to give up ironing. There's no need for it!0

Hi lalaladybird,
We are asked not to post duplicate threads on MSE as it can cause confusion so I am going to add your thread to Ceridwens thread.
The thread has been 'live' for three and a half months and at the time of posting only has 351 posts which makes an average of less than four posts per day. If on the main Old Style board you click on last page (immediately under the thread title) you will be able to read only the most recent posts.

Re finding something the first time we look for it - that certainly helps in being simplified..the number of times I've raced round the house looking for my keys amongst the chaos - that alone has been a good incentive to take note of the phrase "a place for everything and everything in its place". Many of these old phrases contain a lot of truth summed up in just a few simple words. I've even got workmen "trained" by now that they know where I put the keys (i.e. the nearest available bit of shelf to the front door) and help themselves as they go to and fro. Just got to get my regular gas guy "trained" into making his own cups of coffee - think its more a case of he's got me "trained" - as in "dont even ask if I want a cup - just get on and make one whenever you are - and I take milk and 2 sugars"0

pagangirl - trouble is I have a habit of re-organising which means putting stuff in a different place - than takes me ages to find it. Last year I labelled just about everything - going to have to change the labels again !:rotfl:
Another thing I might do that will help me and 0H is to use an address book and note down in it where stuff is kept...........my tip for you ladybird:
Household bills write down in the H section where they are(which cupboard/file)
First Aid kit - write under F - which cupboard/drawer its in
It's me who deals with all that stuff and if I were away for any reason 0H would have no idea where things were. (all other ideas welcome)Mary

I am dreadful for losing keys, but I now have a jar in the cupboard for all my work-related keys.
I was listening to a radio programme which had one of these memory expert peeps on, and someone asked how they could remember where they had put their keys and he said to imagine an explosion when you put them down - then when you need to find them you'll remember where the explosion was. Sounds like quite a fun idea - need to do that for my bag as I'm forever forgetting where I've left that!0 -

Hi Cat Addict. Have you ever heard of Altered Books? This Google search has images of quite a few different kinds. They are a good place to put all those little nostalgic items (tickets, little photos, buttons...) from your store of treasured things. I think they are wonderful, yet I have a friend who considers it sacrilege to cut up an old book, even if it's destined for the skip. She would rather use them as kindling on her wood burner

Ooh, Charis, I love altered books. I started doing one ages ago and was really happy with how it was going. Not sure if I kept it or if it was victim to one of my declutters. Maybe I'll hit Oxfam to find a suitable book to play with...0
