I rarely tumble dry cos i have one of these

    http://www.rotaire.com/

Even on a day like today, my washing all but dried on the line. I just had to hang in the airing cupboard to finish off.

Thanks for that, am waiting for next pay-day and will be ordering one- what a fab idea.

My de-cluttering continues........ Spent much of the day sorting wardrobe. It now looks great, can actually see what I have in there now (which isnt a great deal, but hey, makes life simplier).

I know have quite a few things for e-bay, a bag to go to CS and some old skirts and dresses which are too small but will make lovely fabric for my next quilt.

Feeling quite pleased with myself, now got the task of taking up two dresses which are far too long and I've had them tucked in the wardrobe for years- its like getting two new outfits for nothing!! (mind you I've probably paid for them ten times over with all that interest on the cc- need to forget about that- new start- simplier, debt free (0ne day) life).

    Right, wheres those pins??? :)

Love the idea of a Rotaire Dryer but unfortunately its way out of my price range ;[ So I've decided to buy myself a walk in plastic greenhouse when they get reduced in the shops and put my airer inside that and then they can stay outside and dry that way in the wet, does anyone see any problems with that

PS Sorry thought I was posting on another thread!! But any help would be appreciated [sorry to but in :]]

I don't know Helen, I suppose if you faced the opening flap towards a wall and keep it ventilated to stop it from steaming up then you should be alright. I have a conservatory and I make use of that allot, especially for bringing clothes in off the line. My clothes horses are in constant use and I couldn't do without them. Even for towels or jeans that have a little area where it is still slightly damp the horses finish off the job for me.

I have a tumble dryer, but to be honest I hardly use it. Last winter I bit the bullet and dried heavy stuff like towels because the condensation it was causing while they were drying made it not worth the hassle of having to keep wiping the windows down.

All other times I line dry and I plan my days around the weather. I also dried three pairs of black trousers today after I had spent the morning dying them. I couldn;t do without my line and now I am working p/t it makes it much easier to deal with - there is some bonus out of it I guess :)

Goobergirl you can get those lock-n-lock almost same version in Wilkinsons for a lot less money!

Thanks Rainy Days I will check them out.

Not sure if I did anything OS to simplify my life today. Started the wardrobe clearing out but never finished. Met loads of folk I hadn't seen in ages at the funeral today and stayed a lot longer than anticipated. I guess that was nice in a way though and OS to just have a good chat and catch up.

Airer in use already as the heavens opened here this afternoon and chucked it down for hours. So that was the planned cycle ride with the kids out of the question too.

Played board games with DD after dinner tonight so guess that is OS entertainment too.:D
  • The weekend flew by for me. My newly de-cluttered wardrobe is still tidy and much more user-friendly. Sunday was spent mending and altering clothes but I did this whilst having a lovely chat with DS and then catching up on the soaps (I know many on this thread watch very little TV but I do love corrie, so thats my indulgence).

Work again yest was fine, I am trying to be more positive and instead of moaning about working full-time, firstly be grateful for having a job and secondly lookupon it as the means to getting the the life I want, maybe when I have cleared the debts I can consider part-time work, but in this current financial climate I wont hold my breath!!

During this process, over the past few months of dealing with my debts and trying to lead a more simple, fullfilling life I have realised my attitude really does make a difference. I am trying to be half-full not half-empty sort of person.I am now very grateful for the joys I have in my life, lovely DH and DS, roof over my head, job, family.

Previously I have never been able to just 'relax'. Always looking for the next the I needed to do, not able to sit for long, bit of a cleaning addiction, lot of a shopping addiction. Feel all this was in persuit of a perfect life- but I was never able to relax because striving for perfection is a full-time job. Slowly I am begining to relax, accept that things may not be perfect and be happy with what I've got. Can even go a day without vacumming now!!

Sorry for waffling, hope lifes becoming more simplier for everyone!

How have I simplified my life today???

Well, one major thing is that my re-mortgage completed today so I have saved us a LOT of money every month that was going straight into the bank's pockets as interest.

I am loving my new frugal, simplified life even after only a couple of weeks. My OH is totally on board too so that makes everything so much easier.

I can honestly say the kids are happier, more settled too. Maybe they are just picking up on OH and I's new attitude??
  • Good for you goobergirl, we did same thing couple of months ago, its amazing how much you can save, the savings are going towards paying off the debts.
Glad youre enjoying your simplified lfe, its quite liberating isnt it?
Hope you continue to enjoy and keep posting x

I have been thinking about how I can simplify my life after the kids go back to school in August as I have spent the last year running around mad in the evenings after school.

    1. is to try and get a guitar teacher closer to our home for DS1 or even better one that will come to our house for the lesson. That will save a 38 mile round trip each time.

    2. is to try and keep on top of my ironing. I am fine when i'm on holiday but really struggle when at work.

    3. is to ensure I eat a good diet and include breakfast EVERYDAY. I know this affects my energy levels but I still fall by the way side when back at work.
  • hi goobergirl, great idea to have specific plans- yours make sense. How many kids have you got, I've just got one boy, he seems like a fulltime job, he does guitar on a monday, cubs on weds, drama group sat morning and swimming club sunday evening!!

My dream is a static caravan somewhere like the Scottish Highlands, lovely views and maybe close to the sea. Lots of walks with the dogs and quality time with DH and DS, but dont think that'd be fair on DS so need to do these things here, in rainy Wales, in between my sons social life!! He is 10yrs, and I know time will fly so I need to spend all the time I can with him before he turns into a teenager!!

I have set up the small spare bedroom we have as a bedroom.come laundry room, now have lots of places to hang washing to dry, plus the airer. Not spending on another tumble dryer. I have also left my sewing machine set-up on the chest of drawers, this has encouraged me to make repairs as I need to, not to put off repairing them. . I am now repairing clothes that I would have previously binned, and getting more enjoyment out of wearing them knowing that I've made repairs!

The telly in our bedroom has broke, made the decision not to get another, the bedroom can then be a peaceful retreat, I can escape there to read when my boys are watching those car progs on TV.

Have been saving those sun newspaper tokens to have a cheap short break, plan to take my disabled sister also, hope to do that in Sept, so something nice to plan for that wont cost a fortune..... x
