Cuppatea wrote:The crossword clue for your name [MATH] could be "David's wise son" - solve that one Droopsnout.
Well, David's wise son was Solomon. However, he was not wise enough to avoid marrying 700 princesses and having 300 concubines! These ladies turned him away from what was considered the "true" God, and he turned instead to "foreign" gods. He built a place to worship "Chemosh, the disgusting god of Moab, and a place to worship Molech, the disgusting god of Ammon" (I Kings, Ch 11).
This at first made me think that Cuppa was accusing Math of worshipping a false God, but there is no link there with Math's name.
Matthew's Gospel was written, it is thought, in 50 AD, so lived a long time after Solomon!
So I'm afraid, Cuppa, that I will have to admit failure!! Perhaps, now that you have whetted my appetite, you'll put me out of my misery. To mix a metaphor or two.
Apologies for being off-topic. My defence is that I was unreasonably provoked, m'lud!Much of the social history of the Western world over the past three decades has involved replacing what worked with what sounded good. - Thomas Sowell, "Is Reality Optional?", 19930 -

Sorry Droopsnout, not as clever as I thoughtI was, just goes to show you that the people who make crosswords are far more intelligent than I am. The answer was Solomon and I wasn't accusing MATH of worshipping false Gods. Oh dear - best of intentions, but never mind.
I thought MATH's name may have been Solomon because he said he had won the Rustler quiz the day before and I remembered that the name of the winner the day before had been Solomon Unwin - stuck in my mind for some reason. However, later when I looked at the Rustler quiz I realised he meant that it showed that day that he had won the day before and his name was therefore probably Neil something (sorry can't remember). Unfortunately MSE was having so many problems yesterday (and today) I just gave up trying to repost or edit my original post and so left it.
Sorry if this is confusing! Must try harder next time.\o/ \o/ \o/ \o/ \o/Wise Men Still Seek Him!0 -
