Broadband Speed Test

What with all of the offers etc to do with Broadband etc, thought that you might like a look at this piece of safe, independent software. It runs from its current location - so no installation required.

I always found the NDO speedtest quite poor. I'm on a 24Mbps service, syncing at 17.5Mbps, and able to download at 16.6Mbps.

The NDO site suggested my download speed is 88.6Kbps (WOW!!!).

I find ADSLGuide speedtest better (as mentioned by the post above). I have also used the following, and seem to give fair results:-

The best overall test you can perform, is actually seeing what bandwidth your downloads from various sources is (see what the bandwidth of each of the downloads adds up to).

There is also a very good speedtest out there for anyone getting their broadband through a BT phone line. They have an official BT speedtest that will check your line by cutting out your ISP. If you have any speed problems, this is a good way of seeing if the problems are due to contention on the BT network or problems with your internet provider.

Here's how to use the test..................

Go to your modem or router. Log out of your broadband (make sure you remember your login details). Reconnect to broadband using these details....

    Username: speedtest@speedtest_domain
    Password: (leave blank)

When you connect to this network. Open your browser and go to the page http://speedtester.bt.com/ You will be prompted for your phone number. Enter this and click Go. This test will show you how your broadband is performing on the BT network before it gets to your ISP. You can do this test only once every 30 minutes.

Once you have finished the test. You need to go back to your modem/router and enter your login details for your normal ISP.
