your location to the exchange probably. What mb line do they say you have (bearing in mind they advertise upto Xmb) I get approx 3.2mb connection but rated upto 8mb due to my location to the exchange."Well, that sounds like a pretty good deal. But I think I got a better one. How about I give you the finger, and you give me my phone call"

Well its also dependant on how far you are away from the exchange point
So partially both of them really. Your PAYING AOL but theyre USING BT
At the end of that day though id be on at AOL ~ its them your paying your money to. You would either have to get a bigger package (I assume your on 2 meg?)
Or go with virgin which will be FULL speed (So 10 meg would be EXACTLY 10 meg):idea:0 -

I thought VM were starting to throttle bandwidth, and you only get decent speeds at off peak times ect."Well, that sounds like a pretty good deal. But I think I got a better one. How about I give you the finger, and you give me my phone call"

Thats only for the 1% of SERIOUS users (ie~ me
)
On the whole the average person (ie 99% of them) will get full speed all the time
And even the THROTTLED speeds dont fluctuate (Though the times vary which Ive still never completely figured out):idea:0 -

Could well be your contention ratio (i.e lots of people on your line using the t'internet)."Well, that sounds like a pretty good deal. But I think I got a better one. How about I give you the finger, and you give me my phone call"

It could be BT's fault, or whoever built your house and did the telephone wiring.
Make sure you've got well filtered gut quality phone cabling and sockets, make sure them modem is plugged into the master phone socket, make sure there's an ADSL filter plugged into every phone socket with something plugged into it, and make sure there's no other wireless equipment, microwaves or fluorescent lighting nearby if you're using wireless.
If you make any improvements to the cabling, try phoning AOL to get them to do an ADSL re-calibration, which may or may not give you a faster speed.
Could also check the computer for spyware and the like if you haven't already. And make sure no one else is using your network, invited or otherwise (got wireless security?)Russia is HERE0 -
