  • I have the letters in front of me from Eon which were sent shortly after I have switched from one online saver plan to another. The information is shown on these letters. You should have received this information about your V7 tariff at some point in the past.
Good luck in your research for a cheaper tariff.

No, Version 8 is the cheapest.

Yes, and if I'd known they were about to remove my version 7 online discount without warning I'd have switched to it last week. Charlatans!

You would have received correspondance telling you the discount was for a specific period as freddysmith said earlier

No, I didn't, and the customer service op I spoke to knew nothing about a date on which the discount ended, just that it had.

  • We originally had Energy Online v7 and correctly predicted that we would be moved off it with the current price rises, so switched to Price Protection v17 whilst it was still available a few weeks ago.

We could have moved to Energy Online v8, but couldn't work out whether it had any guarantee at all as to how long we would be left on it before they removed the discount. At least with Price Protection we know it is definitely October 09.

So we may have lost out a little - I just wonder how long those who were 'lucky' enough to get onto Energy Online v8 will actually keep those rates for.....

I wish I could have made that prediction; the only reason I didn't switch was because of the great discount I was getting which I thought I would lose if I switched. In the event I have done as badly as I could possibly have done and feel I have been treated shabbily. I'm just checking all my details before going off to Energyhelpline to switch.

Well that's interesting, if I tell Energyhelpline I'm on E7 then I'm already on the cheapest I can get (except the BG click thing which we know we have to ignore at the moment). If I say I'm on E9, which is what I have effectively been forced onto, then Scottish Power comes out much cheaper, so off I go!

Edit: Well that was all very straightforward. Phoned Eon and told them I was moving within 14 days of having been notified of price increase, they were very helpful and confirmed that I should now be charged at the old rates until the move to Scottish Power is completed. I've done the switch through Energyhelpline, which is estimated to save me £317 over 3 years and I get £15 cashback on top of that. Lovely.

Update just in case anyone's interested! I got my much delayed final account from E-on (apparently it took so long because Scottish Power gave them the meter readings the wrong way round) and everything had been billed at the increased rate. I phoned E-on and pointed out that, according to their T&Cs they should have charged me at the pre-increase rate, which was agreed to straight away and I was told that the final payment collection would be cancelled and they would recalculate it with an ex-gratia compensation payment for the difference. I'm not sure I rate the chances of this being exactly right too highly, as it needs to include amounts from this bill and the previous one and may or may not include online discounts, but as long as it is in the right ballpark I'll be happy. The moral here is that they don't refund the overpayment automatically, you have to ask for it.
