Buying a Car Parking Space - Manchester

  • Hi Quidco-ette, I can't remember the name of the development, its currently still being built, and overlooks the canal that runs through Manchester. Its behind Oxford Road, and if you drive past it and come out the other side you end up on Deansgate (near the Sainsbury express/palace theatre etc) we actually saw it almost a year ago, but decided against buying (pushy salesgirl who told us the flats were great and she too would buy one if she had the money, too expensive for the actual space of the flat, lack of parking etc)

I do quite like the development at Ancoats (Advent House-Isaac way) but have a friend who knows someone who lives there and is constantly reporting back about her car being vandalised during the night! That has put me off buying an apartment there.

Natty- I agree, I think I will wait and see how the market stands a year from now, and will most likely opt to rent in the city centre instead of buying. Must also consider the impending congestion charge in Manchester, as that will no doubt push up rental prices in the city centre.

Unless you've got great reasons for living in the centre like you never want kids, work in the centre, hate driving a car etc I wouldn't.

A studio flat is a cupboard isn't it?

WE live in the centre of London, in a flat, and love it - and we have a 3 year old son. We do work in the centre, though, which is one reason to live here, less travelling!

    Do you have a car?
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Yes. £80 a year, residents' parking. We are thinking of getting rid, though.

£80 a year is a very good price considering your location.... I always thought London was supposed to be the expensive city - looks like I was wrong and it's Manchester!!

Ha, yes, I forgot about that bargain. I was in NYC during the summer. Parking was the same as London - about £30 for 24 hours = £10k pa!

Our car parking space in Manchester costs £120 per month, and we've had it rented for about 16 months.

    It is below an apartment.

Underground 24/7 access, remote fob gate control.

If we'd got it via one of the firms that specialise in car parking spaces I reckon it would be £150pm.

We got it via a classified advert we saw in Gumtree.

I can't get over that some of these parking spaces cost more in rent than most people would have on their car loans..?

I couldn't imagine living anywhere but a city centre.

Good we're all different though. :)

Oh, and our two bed flat in Manchester was 85k and came with a free car parking space. Not as swanky as Castlefield though!
