Leave Virgin Media & rejoin with a different name?

Hi,
I'm living in a student house, and have been with Virgin Media cable broadband for a year now. When we signed up last year we were to pay £17/month for the first 12 months and £28 after.
The contract is in my name only (but all of my housemates contribute to the costs), so would it be possible to cancel the contract in my name, and start a new one in my housemates name. This would mean we get the new introductory offer (which now includes a free wireless router, unlike last year), and theres the possibility of Quidco.
As far as Virgin Media are concerned I've moved out and it's a new tennant.
Also, there's going to be a period of time in between where we dont have an internet connection at all - how long would this be?
Anyone done this or know if it's possible?

Tbh you will be able to get a good deal anyway.

Virgin Broadband on its own, is £9 p/m from there website. £4.50 if taken with a telephone line.

As too a wireless router, these are £25-30 from eBay, and you will own it, so when you move, you can plug it into your new provider.

Can't see why you couldn't do that, as long as you've finished your initial contract period. I think it's a good idea actually!
Ring them up and give them about a weeks notice, they should come out to collect equipment and give a date when everything will disconnect. Then if your friends rang up to say they were 'moving in' a day or 2 later(?) then they should arrange a connection day with you, although it might be worth ringing to see how quick they can connect.
The only downsides I can see - sorting your money out for the final bill and then new bill (do they charge a month in advance?), and also you would probably get a new telephone number (if you have a landline).

Unplug telephone line when installed, and deny that it works.

Cant find the Broadband only, appears they have put it up since i upgraded.

We don't have a landline and don't really want one, as we all have mobiles.
Hmm yeah it could mean we pay for one month twice?? But after just a couple of months it will still be cheaper anyway.
I'll have a look through my bills to see when they're dated etc, but if it saves £10/month plus quidco I'm happy lol!

Don't go with Virgin, they'll rip you off! I'm with Tiscali and think it's great. I've never had any problems with it and think it's really good value. It's not cable but includes line rental so doesnt make much difference. We have the talk, tv and broadband for 16 quid for 3 months then just 20 quid. Free calls too, can't say fairer than that!
