Just a quick question - is there any way to claim back the VAT on a second hand car purchased over here but then taken over to BFG?
Anyone throw any light on this?
Cheers

I'm pretty sure you can only get the tax back on new cars and when you purchase a tax free car you don't pay the tax in the first place. You pay the reduced price rather than paying the full price and re-claiming.Murphy's No More Pies Club Member No. 680

Sorry don't think you can as previous post says, I believe it is only on new cars.
We managed to buy a tax free car whilst in UK but on posting to Germany we had to export it by a given date. This was a few years ago so not sure if still applicable.Mortgage

Am happy with all the VAT rules and regulations for a new car but was wondering about a second-hand one.0

We're thinking of buying a new car. Have had a look at a few websites via the forces discount directory site.
Can anyone recommend a company? Is it ok to still haggle to price down?
What cars and prices has everyone paid?0 -
We got an Alfa whilst in Germany, nearly 8 years ago. They had a tax free price and wouldn't budge any lower. Mind it was £12k cheaper than UK!!Murphy's No More Pies Club Member No. 680

Stan's a top man and his prices take some beating especially on Ford's and Vauxhall's.0 -
cars direct is a good company. i bought my car in May and have a good deal where i can change my car and does not effect my finance and the length of the finance stays the same.0

Depends what you are after.
BMW is only Park Lane BMW and Audi have gone the same way so you can only go to Finchley Audi. Although Naafi will source the car for you for these makes, they still come from one of these two dealers.
What are you thinking of getting?0 -
Hi,
Just wanted to say we bought the Focus ST3 (with keyless entry) for £12900 in july - we got ours from Cars Direct and we phoned round and haggled a good £2000 off what we were quoted originallyBook price in uk is £21500.
So i would say haggle away and phone round! Dont take the first price you get offered.
Hope that helps
