Over 50? NOW WHAT?! Time to get fired up!

What would you now like to do... preferably something that younger people don't think you're capable of!

I think I'd like to try that surfing with parachute thing and surf board..... but as I've never been surfing it's unlikely..... we can dream though!

I was impressed by my son's girlfriend's gran who went white water rafting, she was over 60.

If only! I shall be 50 in February. I used to think I was going to retire at 60. Then they pushed it up to 65. Now they want it pushed up to 67. I'd push something up them, given the chance  !!

But I don't think I'm going to be able to do anything exciting....tis a daily struggle to get by financially at the moment and I see absolutely no chance of improvement whatsoever. Unless I win the lottery tonight ;) Had my daughters quite late in life too, which means that they will probably still be living with me until I'm well into my 60s....blimey, what a thought!

So much for life begins at 40 :o

Could always fantasize about exploring my own Country, though, about being able to afford a housemaid and living in a gorgeous little place by the sea. Just enjoying myself all the time. Ah, that would be lovely. Don't particularly want to travel the world. Not very sporty. Quite boring really. Just a nice easy life without financial or work pressures would do me nicely.

Blimey, how boring that all sounds. :o

I've always looked at places I'd like to live from being a teenager walking past houses etc., I would like a nice place near the sea too and I like the housemaid idea! I don't think it's likely as so many people want to live by the sea, I suppose we're lucky that none of us live too far from it.

Perhaps you don't need to aspire to anything, perhaps just the wisdom that you look at life with after all the knowledge you accumulated is enough? (Wisdom? How come I make some of the same mistakes more than once?!)

After a quad heart by-pass, I thoroughly enjoyed it at 70 and went along zip-lines in the 40 metres high among the same jungle canopy. - "You're only old as you feel" they say, but wished I could repeat the experiences.

Are all these physically active and stressful activities a substitute for sex?

The difference between us and a 20 year old is that they can do that adventure stuff all day and still miss most of a nights sleep...

I don't think so, people enjoy sports (or not!) all through life regardless of their sexual activity. I agree about the difference though, when I was at school we went away at weekends to do activities, sometimes it was a 9 hour trip and we stayed up late on Saturday night, drove back 9 hours and I was still in school on Monday (maybe that's why I wanted the windows open in maths cos I was falling asleep!) :snow_laug

We were on a boat trip in Cyprus this year and met a number of older people who were all members of a travel club called "Travelling Companions". I hadn't heard of it before, but it's a nationwide club for people who love travelling but have no one to go with, and don't want to go alone.

Several of them had a go at parasailing and loved it - all said they would definitely do it again. :snow_grin

Why not do a bit of studying, and get some qualifications? At the minute I'm doing a course which is equivalent to 3 A levels. The teacher tells us that one of her former students who did the course kept on studying and graduated from university in her 67th year - it is never too old to learn something new. That lady and her kids must have been so proud on her graduation day.

If you think nobody cares about you, try missing a couple of payments.
  • I handed my completed B&Q over 55's discount appliction form to an assistant and asked her if she needed proof of age. She looked me straight in the eye and said "no, yer'll all right"
