£112.50 New line fee???

Talktalk cheap? I don't think so.

The new line fee is a nice surprise when you get 3 or 4 months into your contract isn't it?

This was NOT made clear to me when I joined. I was just told to "stay away from BT as they would charge me a connection fee".
Well adding £112 onto the contract I signed up to Talk talk doesn't make it cheap at all!!!

I'm just off the phone to customer services who were obviously reading from a script on how to deal with this complaint.
I don't care about whether or not the phone line was unbundled or whatever when I signed up. £112 was NEVER mentioned and I'm not happy about it. In fact, the connection fee to BT was used as a selling point by Talk talk to keep me away from signing up to BT. UNBELEIVABLE!!!

Roll on the end of this contract.
I'll probably see it out but when it comes to an end or when I next move house I will buy an internet dongle for my broadband and just use a mobile instead of a fixed line in the house.

I would advise anyone reading this and thinking about joining talktalk to have a shop around. Look at dongles for your broadband at home. The contracts are now very cheap, two of my mates have them and they work great. They've seen the light.
Get a good mobile contract. Do you even need a fixed line nowadays?
Look at Skype if you do need to make international calls. You can now do this through mobiles and if you have an internet dongle, through your computer.

Annoyed I signed up to TT in the first place now.
I'm just glad technology is now making fixed lines redundant. TalkTalk, you got me to sign up this year through a bit of fast talking. It won't happen again!!

And the BT connection fee would have been £29.99!
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. • Top tip for anyone looking for a land line, DON'T!!!

    Get a good mobile deal.

Then £110 can pay for 11 months of broadband dongle usage.

    http://www.top10-broadband.co.uk/types/mobile_broadband

You can then use skype to phone via broadband using a mobile with skype or a skype land phone.

    No line rental.
    No cost for line connection.
    Cheap calls.

2 guys I know have these dongles and they are very impressed. They use them for broadband and calls.

I know what I'll be doing next time and it won't have anything to do with a landline.

Talk talk your days are numbered....
  • so just to be clear . at the moment I'm with primus and im thinking of moving netxt year , Talk talk and bt will charge me for conection or is this a case of there not having a line there before??

If you moved from BT to Primus and want to return to BT they will normally not charge you a reconnection fee.

To get Talk Talk you need a BT Line.

No you don't - but Talk Talk will tell you that because it's cheaper for them.

You know full well Talk Talk will not connect you without one at the present time. So you do need a BT Line.:D

I appreciate that if Talk Talk could be bothered they could provide them thereselves,as they now do for their moving customers.
  • While I was abroad, the BT line for my property was converted to Talk Talk line as the tenants transferred their existing contract to my address. Now that the tenants have moved out and taken their Talk Talk deal with them, Talk Talk is cancelling the line (returning it to BT Retail). I tried to open a contract with Talk Talk while the line was still active but they claimed they are unable to stop the cancellation and unable to open a contract for me because their system still shows the tenant's details at my address.
BT will charge £120 to reactivate the line after the cancellation as work is needed to remove Talk Talk's technology (not compatible with BT's technology).
The line was converted from BT to Talk Talk free of charge for the tenants and the implications were not explained to them (there was no engineer visit and the tenants thought the line was still BT's). Does this constitute unfair practice?
Why does BT charge new/returning customers instead of charging Talk Talk as the provider who has made these changes necessary?
Has anybody appealed against this charge?
Which body can I take my complain to?
Is there a way around the BT connection fee with a cheap contract considering that I don't know how long I will be in the UK? I need broadband ASAP as I am looking for a job abroad. Virgin fibre optic is not available in my area, I cannot get Sky in my building and mobile internet is not an option either as I only have a pre-paid deal at the moment.
  • Try the post office my sister got her BB from them and they only charge £2 fee.
  • i've just tried to get the good deal with tiscali -phone broadband and tv for 19.99, just phoned them and they told me that they couldn't switch me over as i was with Talk Talk for my line rental, and according to them the only company that can transfer a talk talk line is BT, but by doing this i'll have to be locked in to the bt line rental for 12months!! is this legal, surely theres something about competion rules or something, - please help

Tiscali are 'being economical with the truth.' What they really mean is they won't pay for Openreach to do the work.

    That should tell you something!
