I know nothing about computers but we need anti-virus spyware software (does that make sense?)
Which is the best one? I know there are some that are free are they any good?

I use (& have for years with no problems) AVG (anti virus), Zonealarm (firewall), Spybot Search & Destroy & Adaware (anti spyware). All free, all update regularly.0

you need to get AVG to do a test from time to time, it will run it itself if the PC is on at the right time but if you click on the AVG icon (bottom right of the screen) and then hit the Test Centre you can do a manual test as wel, I would also advise installing the microsoft Anti Spyware if you are usin Xp

again it's free and will remove the stuff that anti virus does not pick up
as it installs just answer yes to all the questions it asks and install it by clicking on the "Open" button not the "save"Ex forum ambassador
