Changed ISP - now email probs

Hi, hoping one of you techies can help please.

We have recently changed from Pipex to TalkTalk, from dial up to one where we don't now dial up (but what is that called ? LAN, VPN ?). We have XP Professional and Outlook 2003. We have our own domain name and use that for email. We run ZoneAlarm and Avast. We have made (we thought) the necessary changes in Outlook/Tools/email accounts to reflect our new ISP.

For the first three days after the change, we were receiving emails but could not send any - today, nothing is sending or being received which was was after I'd tried a few 'corrections' so I've obviously done something wrong. We are now also getting pop ups every time Outlook is trying to send/receive, prompting us for the network password. I've looked on various techie boards and none of the solutions have made any difference.

Help please anyone ?

What 'corrections' did you make? Just reverse them :s
The password is the one you use for your email provider (Can you clarify WHO your email account is with?)

  • Hi, I thought I had reversed everything - it all looks right and there's nothing obvious that I can see. I copied down our Pipex email settings and used similar for TalkTalk - I think it's to do with not now having a dial up broadband, but our PC (or Outlook anyway) thinks we do.

Our ISP is Talktalk; is that what you mean by who our email account is with ? Or do you mean who we registered the domain name with (123-reg).

Yes, I am using the Talktalk password.
  • if the email is the same as your domain .. i take it the hosting compny kow about the switch and are forwardig the emails to talktalk ???

Could really do with seeing your email address for clarification purposes. Just the "@" bit onwards
    eg '@googlemail.com'

That's because you closed your internet account with Pipex so they've closed your email account. I can't believe you didn't think this wouldn't happen.

This is correct and the server settings for Talk Talk are different to Pipex, so you will need the new server setting for pop and smtp (incoming and outgoing mail protocols)

    This thread here http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1154331
the OP just got theres working on Talk Talk I posted the server settings there.

You will use your talk talk username and password. I think its username@talktalk.co.uk (or maybe .com not 100% sure) do a google search for "Talk Talk email setup" and you will find definitive answer to the settings.
"Well, that sounds like a pretty good deal. But I think I got a better one. How about I give you the finger, and you give me my phone call"

Id suggest using goolemail though. That way you can sign in with any computer anywhere and not have to worry about all this again.

Instead, you just have to worry about google indexing all your private email and people being able to access your account with the many exploits there are.
