In August I started work within the NHS. I had to complete weekly timesheets on which I needed to put my employee reference number. Neither the bank office, payroll or Human Resources had any record of my existence - though I've correspondence from them offering me the work - which meant I had no employee reference number and no means of getting paid.
I sent in two timesheets on 16 and 23 August signed by my line manager. I assumed I would be paid at the end of August as agreed.
I still haven't received my pay. Human Resources acknowledged this week that the issue about my employee reference number was raised on 12 August - yet nothing has moved forward with this. I've not been sent any new forms to complete or any guidance as to when I might expect payment even though I asked the direct question three times in my last call to them. On Wednesday I was promised a phone call back from HR, but have heard nothing and still haven't got paid two days later.
I can't camp out at their offices as I've got work next week within office hours. I really don't know what to do next. I'm finding the situation really stressful. Can anyone advise what my next step should be?

Thanks Beanie,
I'm so tired now that I can't think straight so it's good to have someone keep it simple. I already feel a bit better getting this stress off my chest.
I'll put it all in writing to the HR department tomorrow and hopefully get the money I've earned in my bank account shortly.
Thanks again for your speedy response.

Personally, I wouldnt go to work until HR had sorted it out - write to them and whilst you are at it speak to ACAS, as they give free advice on employment issues.0

Keep phoning, every day if necessary. NHS pay departments are bad....voice of experience. Ask for cheque in advance of pay...I've had that in past.x x x0

I would speak to your line manager and see if they can talk to HR on your behalf. Do not abstain from work, they will get it sorted out for you but it may take some communication from your line manager.0

Definitely keep going to work! Speak to your Manager and tell them that you haven't been paid and it's causing you a great deal of worry and stress.
Any decent employer should panic hearing the word 'stress' coming from an employee particularly when there is a clear cause of it coming from them!Almost debt-free, but certainly even with the Banks!0 -
Definately think you manager should be stepping up and dealing with this issue.
Hope you get it sorted out soon.Proud to be dealing with my debts - DFW No: 712

Payroll in the NHS has strict deadlines (usually 5 wd into the month). For bank staff the situation is different, for some reason pay is delayed by a further month so I wouldn't expect any money until the eo Sept now.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

I have experienced something very similar to this situation. Initally was not paid for four months. Very frustrating. Despite lots of phone calld and promises it would be sorted out it wasn't. I was on the verge of having to find another job to survive. In the end it took a kind manager to send a very snotty fax to the payrole department to start to get it sorted. Initally they paid only 60% of the owed wages. The rest at the end of the month. I have had several months of not being paid and if I had the energy or option I would have walked away. I have developed a very close working relatio ship and know all of the staff by their first name. Keep a record of who you speak to and when you spoke to them. There is some sort of legislation to ensure you are paid if owed money but not sure it helps much. Kepp on until you get a result.

I would also keep a record of any charges you incur as a result of their !!!!-up, and demand full repayment of all of them. It's their fault you incurred them, they should reimburse you.
