I cancelled the account and the card and went elsewhere!
I just can't understand why people do this. You've had a credit check and have got the card. OK, the 0% period is not as long as it might have been if you had signed up in September but surely you knew what you were signing up to at the time.

And what's wrong with 0% for 5 months? You can make money on that, you'd have qualified for the 0% anniversary offer as well and you'd have an extremely useful SBT card. It seems like you've wasted a credit check and a good profit-making opportunity. IIWY, I'd ring them up and ask for the card to be reinstated.
  • Hi all,
I have an Alliance & Leicester card currently with £5k which was SBT into an offset mortgage account.
Recieved a letter this morning from A&L stating that the T&C are changing from 1st November.

The first part I understand, they are increasing the charge for balance transfers and cheque transactions to a maximum of £50 now(was £35). Its the other changes i dont know if it will effect my SBT

    i quote

' 1/ We will not increase any promotional rate unless you have not kept to any terms and conditions that apply to your account, or we believe that the accountis in danger of being misused. If you do not keep to the terms and conditions at any time, we may totally withdraw any promotional rates which apply to your account from the day after your last statement date.....'

Cant find my original T&C's , does anybody know how this has changed ? :-/

  • We are just about to apply for a new interest free credit card and have narrowed the choice down - just want to run it by you folks for confirmation that my thoughts are correct.

We need to transfer around £2500 and I want the longest period possible. We wont need to spend on the card and will make the minimum monthly payment until the period is up then transfer again. We have a good credit history.

I reckon it is a choice between Barclaycard and lloyds who both offer 12 months. Barclays seem to charge a fee for balance transfer but Lloyds dont. However Lloyds seem to charge interest right away on purchases. As we wont be making any purchases then this does not apply.

Do you learned folks agree with me and has anyone opened a Lloyds credit card recently, if so whats the timeline on the application?

    Thanks

    Angus
  • I seem to recall a mention of Capital One offering 18mths interest free period, I read it somewhere on this site in the last couple of weeks. It might be worth giving them a call and see if you can get it.

I doubt very much if you will get a credit limit of £2500 from Barclaycard. Check other posts for the disappointing limits set by this card for other applicants.

  • I have looked at Cap one but they only offer 6 months interest free, looks like Lloyds TSB for us

I just recently applied for the Barclaycard and was given £4900, just the job as i had £2500 to transfer and with the 0% on purchases as well I soon maxed it out.

I applied (online) for a LLoyds TSB Advance card on 15/08/04, sent back the signed agreement on 19/08/04, and got the card on 26/08/04 - so that's a total of 9 working days from application to bt. I also have a bank a/c with them so phoned up straight away when I got my card and upped my credit limit from £3500 to £5000.
  • Question,

Like most I dont like people posting without reading but this thread is long and there is so much info there that whilst I have read much I still dont have all the pieces of the jigsaw to answer my own question. Any expert advice welcomed.

I am new to this BT thing but would like to try and get a good deal from CC companies for once.

    * I have an MBNA with £15,300 available credit.
    * I have a Capital ONe application form with 18 months 0% interest.

Can I apply to Capital one for £15,000 balance transfer from MBNA and if so my questions are

    * I have a good credit rating so would my £15,000 be possible/likely/unlikely ?

    * How do I get my money out of MBNA ?
    1) Credit card cheque before application (risk of non acceptance or lower credit limit)
    2) Credit card cheque after transfer of funds ie Can MBNA have a credit balance for this to work
    3) Via a transfer using any other method - please advise ?

Thanks and Best Regards all you BT experts
