Read your meters every month and put the reading in online, they put my DD up but have already brought it down a bit, you have a bit more bargaining power if they can see what your using every month0

I worked out my consumption over the last 12 months in KWh and then worked out the cost based on the SP Fixed to 2011 unit rates and it came out at £80 per month for the elec and gas. I had been paying £70 per month to BG before switching to SP 2 or 3 months ago and I too was therefore surprised to see that SP increased my monthly debit to £108 this week. I therefore rang and insisted I had done the maths based on my KWh usage over the last 12 months and they agreed verbally to reduce it to a mutually agreeable £85 per month giving a little cushion incase the wife turns up the thermostat when I am not looking
). I am still awaiting written confirmation but expect to receive it in the next week.
If you can establish your annual KWh usage I would recommend you do the same calculations and ask for your direct debit to be adjusted to 1/12th of your calculated annual cost with SP. Most people will build up a credit between May and September which will then be used up over the winter months.
The trouble with SP is that they guess the winter usage at a set mutiple of the summer usage and so those of us who are more careful with our winter usage end up paying more per month than we need to. SP will only be in a postition to know the actual consumption once you've been with them for 1 year as the previous supplier doesn't provide them with any information on historic usage at handover.0 -

I second this but read my previous post and be prepared to ring SP every 3 months if their computers do increase the monthly amount - once you've been with them for a year things should settle down.0 -

(Totally genuine suggestion) Have you thought about buying a fleece rug/snuggle/whatever they are called, especially if, as you imply, most of your time is spent sitting and in the same place? I look at it akin to using my massive leccy oven to heat a small pizza - there's loads of space being heated unnecessarily so I simply don't do it any more. Same with your house/room. I know some people will think I'm taking money saving too far but, to me, it's far more than me actually saving money - it's more to do with me paying the energy companies not a penny more than I really have to...;)Call me Carmine....
HAVE YOU SEEN QUENTIN'S CASHBACK CARD??0
