I was lucky enough to catch the Scottish Power 2011 deal however they have suddenly raised my direct debit from £40 to £79!
I email to query it and no joy so decided to call. Over the past 3 months Ive used £83.53. Customer services said the lowest they would drop it too was £71pm:eek: so I got put through to complaints and by now im .
Had a bit of a haggle with complaints and the lowest they said was £60. I live on my own and work during the day so I wouldnt expect to have a big bill.
Anyhow she said it was because id used £32 of gas over the past month and a bit and £17 of leccy..so im thinking well thats still over a months worth and still not £60! so now im starting to get upset cause I cant afford to be paying over what I use for gas and leccy leaving me out of pocket. I get upset (couldnt help it) then I finally managed to agree £50 which im happy with and we both agreed id submit regular readings (which i do anyhow) and she would monitor my account. She even gave me her direct line! Overall im alot happier now but am I on my own with this??

I cancelled my DD with Scottish Power as they continually wanted more than I was using. I don't use any more electricity in the winter than summer, and I got fed up with their 'Oh, well, you'll be in credit' line.
Switched from Scottish Power because of their abysmal customer service. Now I pay quarterly on online readings I submit myself. It makes life easier although I'm not happy with SSE either tbh..I shot a vein in my neck and coughed up a Quaalude.

I would switch too if I hadnt got a good deal. Just so upset on the powers they can put over us 'Not to put us in debt' ha. Do they do this to gain the intrest on overpayments I wonder?A dAy WiThOuT wInE iS lIkE a DaY wItHoUt SuNsHiNe0

Have posted elsewhere re Scottish Power and DD.They opened two brand new DD on my bank account without warning or notice. Have still not had an answer as to why-I have a strong suspicion that they are using the DD in a somewhat cavalier fashion. There was an item on 5Live radio about British Gas doing the same .It has really highlighted for me the potential danger of DD. I believe the power companies are abusing the system0

If you have used £49 in just over a month in August, you are in line to use double that or more in the winter.
I rather fear you are just putting off the inevitable and going to build up a big debit balance that will need to be cleared by a massive hike in your DD.0 -
Having worked out our last 12 months I should be paying £101 per month for the 2009 fixed price deal..Instead they have said I will be paying £60 a month. The colder months are nearly here and it will definately put me in a debt at the lower figure.I will be adjusting it to at least £90+.
Hope you get yours sorted.0 -
My central heating is now back on as it was last year (timer). The deal I got with Scottish Power wasnt far off what I was paying before with British Gas. I got the deal before the price rises and it is now fixed until 2011.A dAy WiThOuT wInE iS lIkE a DaY wItHoUt SuNsHiNe0

Not everyone uses more energy over winter. Why should we be forced to give loans to utility companies to receive the cheapest price? I have had debits twenty times my actual useage taken from me.
And it will take me nineteen months to claw my overpayment back from my telephone provider.0 -

The next few moths will tell I suppose. I dont spend much time in the house at all so if you are right and my bill doubles over what i paid last year then ill have to know the heating off when im not in!A dAy WiThOuT wInE iS lIkE a DaY wItHoUt SuNsHiNe0 -

I had to claim back from british gas... they are quick enough to take the money but takes FOREVER to get it back! lolA dAy WiThOuT wInE iS lIkE a DaY wItHoUt SuNsHiNe0 -
