We were booked to go in February with Travel City Direct and have lost our full balance of £5500 we managed to book another trip with Virgin Holidays and are hoping that the money we have been assured that we will get back is returned to us in time to pay the balance. First Choice were rude and arrogant about it in our branch yesterday with a you should have booked with us in the first place approach and basically told us that we were not there problem and they didn't know what to do next as it had never happened to them. As a frequent traveller with First Choice this has certainly put us off booking with them again!0

We have managed to book with Virgin for a few weeks before we were due to depart for more or less the same money and I have now found on their website that if you book then they will now accept your claim form and process it on your behalf for holidays after 1st January 2009. It cuts out the middleman and you then only need to find the deposit initially. This is the information that I have found.

i know of someone caught up in zoom and xl..how unlucky
Whoever this person is, if and WHEN they do fly please make sure I'm not on their plane. They don't sound the luckiest of people when it comes to flying
We have a holiday booked with Fleetway Travel using XL Flights. Fleetway e - mailed me saying they were looking into it by departure date order, we are / were due to fly in 3 weeks time to Kos. I don't know if they'll refund the holiday or just change the flights.
There's always something isn't there!?

I can well understand peoples' anger but the thing is, XL didnt want to go under and I'm sure that they fought to the last minute to try and keep the company afloat. In the end,it will have been their financiers and debtors who will have finished them off.
One thing a company will never do is give advanced warning that there are problems because that would change a possibility of failure into a 100% certainty!
I am saddened that XL have gone under because they were a very good airline. I used them lots of times and they always had good planes, very good staff and were always efficient,on time and gave good service.
Hopefully someone will somehow refloat it,,who knows?
Fuel is the big killer. BA and other airlines have contracts for fuel which were negotiated some time ago so they have hedged. Sooner or later, even they will be fully exposed to the market.
As more and more airlines go under,so the future prospects for affordable holidays gets less and less.
So dont blame XL and its managers. they wanted to survive..its just business in the end.0 -

I have been into First Choice today & they they are helping people who have booked any PACKAGE deal. :j
I assume it is basically the deals that people can claim back on. We have to go in on Monday morning with all our Travel City Direct paperwork & they will help with all the forms & rebook our holiday.
I dont know if they have done a takeover of XL. I only know what i have said at the top.
I truly hope this helps people & that F.C. can help ALL affected.
My advice would be for those that have been affected to take ALL paperwork inc proof of payment into their local First Choice.
Hey it may just be a chink of light at the end of the tunnel. :beer:Im new to all this but thanks for your support & patience :A :j0 -
I booked my holiday through thomson and they are unable to find me something for a similar price so we're just getting our money back. Should get it back next week they said. Hoping to try and find a late deal with somebody else once we get our money back. Think happy & you'll be happy

I've lost my holiday to Turkey next Sat. It was our first wedding anniversary present to each other. I am totally gutted. Paid by Debit Card via XL website so going to ring my bank and ask about the chargeback thing. It all works out good in the end.If it's not good, it's not the end!0
