Alfa Spider 3.0 - Yes, yes I know I am mad!

I know I am probably stark raving barmy and I know it is not very MSE, but I have found an Alfa Spider 3.0 on Auto Trader that I like and I just can't stop thinking about wanting it.

It's black one, with red momo leather interior. It has done about 60k miles, it is about 7 years old and is available for about £5k.

This seems like a LOT of car for my buck, but it is an Alfa !

So am I mad to be even considering this?
I only do about 6k miles a year.

What could possibly go wrong :rotfl:

Is it the one thats on at 5250 with a private seller (Brian) who gives a mobile or an 0870 number as contact details?

As he's 370 miles from me I would guess he's in Central / Southern Scotland. Is that convenient for you?

:rotfl: :rotfl: No, not my scene.

I'm just suspicious of people who don't give a landline as contact.

A friend of mine had one and loved it but that was despite the reliability not because of it and his was new;) .

I thought that myself and it's a bl@@dy long way to go to get it - I assume it must be Scotland!

Would I be better off waiting and trying to find a 2.0ltr version of a spider?
I hear that the 2.0 is better "balanced".

Or should I just give up the whole barmy idea and look for a sensible diesel mondeo - which is what I started looking for befire being distracted!

The same friend had a 2.0 as well and preferred the 3.0. The 2.0 got good write ups at the time though.

You do realise there is no storage space in them (and that includes the 'boot').

Why don't you find one local to you to just go and look at if you've never driven one before. You can always 'make your excuses and leave'.

My BiL had one (2.0) when they first came out and I drove that a couple of times and thought it was fabulous!

I can't help but be attracted to the 3.0 though (not very MSE I know, but I will only be doing 6,000 miles a year).

But an Alfa? Am I having a mid-life crisis?
I watched the Top Gear Alfa special - did I not learn anything?
Maybe, but it is such a gorgeous car and I have never owned an Alfa before.

Storage - nah not worried about that, I'll probably only use it for work and taking my Son's to football (obviously only one at a time!)

Let me write what you want to hear.

What a great idea, go for it. They are fantastic cars and you'll love every second of owning it and be the envy of all your mates. They aren't half as unreliable as you've heard. It's a once in a lifetime opportunity that you just can't miss.

    Happy now?

Just what I wanted to hear, have a

Do you think you could have a word with my missus and tell her that as well - you might have a bit more luck persuading her that this is a once in a lifetime chance and we shouldn't miss it!

You didn't have your fingers crossed when you wrote that last reply did you ;)

I can't see the smilies today so I'm not sure what you've given me!

Tell the missus she can have her choice next time.;)
