Morrison's Special Offers

I'm totally browned off by having to check all Morrison special offers with a magnifying glass each time I'm in store. I go there trying to be as careful as possible, but still I get caught out.

One example I noticed in store today was Terry's Gold Chocolates 225g at BOGOF for £3.39. Further along the shelf and with a smaller label were 450g boxes at £3.25. One that caught me out today was Batchelor's Healthy Choice soups 3 for 2, so I bought 3. Came home to find there was no price reduction - it seems 2 of the tins I bought were Healthy Choice Chunky so were not on offer - all together on the shelf though.

The shelf stackers put similar goods to those on special offer behind the shelf labels, so you are easily caught out. This happens so regularly that I sometimes wonder whether this is a deliberate ploy. Sometimes there are even bins of items in the aisles with big special offer signs, but the contents are not those on offer.

But you check the SEL, when i look for offers i look for a piece of advertising called a barker which details which of the ranges are on offer eg Batchelor's Healthy Choice, if theres no mention of Healthy Choice Chunky on the piece of advertising then i take it that it isnt on offer

regarding the chocolates, the product was advertised on the shelf for people to see but if people dont see the items on offer theres not much morrisons can do.

"put similar goods to those on special offer behind the shelf labels, so you are easily caught out."

the comment above could be explained that maybe 1 of the shelf stackers put the item in the wrong place, maybe they didnt see the item they were putting out was a different product to what was on the shelf, trust me ive worked(not in morrisons mind) with people who didnt read the label correctly

I don't think this is unique to Morrisons and I would be surprised if it is deliberate. If you are paid a minimum wage as a shef-stacker you will probably adhere to the store's planogram and are unlikley to be sufficiently motivated to operate a stealth policy. If I'm ever unsure of prices I asked that the items are scanned first for a price check. And always always check the rcpt before you leave the premises so if there are any corrections / returns to be made you can do it there and then. Caveat emptor applies, it's too late when you get home.

I find a few things about Morrisons I don't like, and ty to shop there as little as possible.
  • Hmmm What do you think of Sainsbury? I'm fed up with Tesco..

  • My Sainsbury is a pleasant store, pleasant staff, but quite small. Tesco is becoming a monster staffed by disillusioned and depressed employees.

Back to the op - whilst the chocolate thing really is down to the customer to choose, I've said on here before that the incorrect siting of goods under promotional sels happens too often in all stores. Also, some labels are quite generic when they intend to apply to one product only. Worse, some labels and prices simply don't match - eg, the other day I bought one bottle of juice from Somerfield - advertised clearly as 54p. It scanned at 79p - as it was only one item I noticed - neither SA nor supervisor had a clue - it must surely be as frustrating for staff as customer.
  • Thanks- I'm thinking of going there instead of Tesco- have seen the ads for fruit and veg at 55p. It is twice the distance, but if I get a better customer experience..

  • I used to think it was accidental... Until I complained to a duty manager about a BOGOF beer offer.. ( none there but the same brand in a slightly different quantity in there place ..under the BOGOF sign )

After my complaint did they do anything....Nope ! same issue next week

    DELIBERATELY PLACED TO MISLEAD

Don't you think it's actually they had ran out. The other type is going to have to go near the original product. You can't start scattering products around the store so that 0.5% (because it would have said which size on the sign) of the population doesn't get confused with any offers.
  • In the beer example, it was a pile of different beers all on special offer on a display set up on the other side of the shop ( nowhere near the beer and wine section ) Every beer on display was under a special offer sign .... but the beer quantities and the sign were slightly different... so no BOGOF, Some were correct, some not.

No excuse in this case... obviously misleading and even after they apologised they failed to rectify it for the next customers... It leads me to believe they it was a deliberate action either from Morissons or their local management.
