I recently changed my mother's BT phone line service to the BT Anytime service which was on offer at £15.45 per month. It seemed a good offer, because she is a pensioner it would save her a small amount each month.

She received her first phone bill today and was charged a 3 month advance line rental charge. This was not mentioned anywhere on the BT website or the BT customer service who set up the new service.

I contacted BT who have now changed the quarterly billing to monthly billing instead but the monthly billing works out at around £18 per month.

I am not happy, I tried to change back to her original BT phone service but I was informed that she was now in a new fixed contract and nothing could be done to change things.

So be warned check out if there are any advance payment taken when signing up with any new BT phone contracts or package changes.

Sorry for all the idiots on here, not actually helping with the situation but making sarcastic, uncalled for comments.

The reasoning behind being automatically put on quarterly billing is essentially BT's cost of producing bills. If a customer doesn't pay by DD, the automatic rule is that they go onto Quarterly billing with an additional 4.50 payment processing fee. If you pay monthly, it must be monthly whole bill direct debit or monthly payment plan, both of which require a DD. Even if your Mum was on monthly billing without DD, she should be paying 1.50 on top of the line rental, so the charges you have is slightly excessive.

You should wait until her next bill comes in and see if she's signed up to any of BT's calling features, which could add an extra charge.

    Hope this helps

I didn't even see this thread until now. I almost want to tell her where I live because I know she'll stalk my house. I'd be able to get a pic of Honeydog hiding in a bush or something and put it on here!:rotfl:

BT - no thanks.. I'm with telewest for my phone- if they give me any grief I threaten to switch. Going by what a lot of people say, BT usually hide their true cost.
I shot a vein in my neck and coughed up a Quaalude.
