Very cute!
I give my dog dry food, for that reason so he doesnt get stains unless he gets into something he shouldnt. You might have to use dog shampoo on him.“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0 -
Any suggestions what's best to use to clean the white fur on his face it's turning orange from his food!!
I dunno, those sort of dogs always seem to have orangey hair on their face, I think its from saliva as well as food, but I have never had a hairy, beardy dog so I could be wrong... can you have them trimmed a bit to neaten them up around the mush? Maybe ask a groomer?0 -
The orange colour does come from the saliva - I get it on my bathroom door where the idiot dog licks it !
My groomer shaves off my Apso's moustache and beard every six weeks, I still need to give his face a regular wash as he dribbles when he's enjoying a chew and it makes the fur very stiff and smelly......................I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

whoo - give me a short coated dog anyday! No grooming and no smelly beard :-)0

They are both categorised as being Gentle and Loyal for their personality traits although of course every dog is different. Lhasas can be own for being quite stubborn though wheras Shih Tzus are quite biddable.

Hmm, my 2 shitzus were quite stubbon. But lovely little things. Although Pippin didn't like to get her paws wet0 -
Hi again everyone
I have been meaning to put an update on here but basically don't know where the last couple of weeks have gone!! I have been immersed in doggy-land!!
I also wanted to thank everyone again for your initial advice it was really helpful.
He is doing well overall he now loves his crate (thank goodness!!) and is quiet for most of the night too. We are still getting there with the toilet training - he just needs to get the message to bark or scratch at the door or something so that we know when he needs to go out? Any suggestions...?
We have been to our first puppy training class tonight and he was really good but a little unsure of the other dogs although to be fair they were all big dogs most of them were labrador and huge cross breeds so they were 20x bigger than him!!
He is already a MSEr!! I managed to get a great baby gate for the stairs from Freecycle the day after I asked if anyone had one available, and he even prefers the Poundland puppy pads to the deluxe pet shop ones!! Good dog :rotfl: :rotfl:
So....my aim from here on...is to have him to be as well trained/obedient as possible!?! ..................
Fingers crossed LOL!!!0 -
Hi Catlou,
Max looks fab, I love his colouring. I've got 3 lhasas, 2 dogs and 1 lady. They all have very different personalities.
Had the first (Benji) as a 10 week old pup in 2005, he was really playful and inquisitive and easy to train, learning a load of cute tricks within a few weeks. I found that praise and reward for doing the right thing worked quicker than telling him NO when he was bad, this included his toilet training. I'd put him in the garden and tell him what he was there for, when he did these things I'd say the word... either piddles or poopoo and then praise him and reward with small treat.
The little lady came to us in spring of last year as an 8 week old and she was so much quicker to pick it up and was dry through the night by 10 weeks. I think that was partly due to the training and partly due to her following the pack... Benji. She even picked up all of his tricks just by watching him do them.
The youngest boy came to us at the end of last year as a 6 month old who'd been kept back for showing by the breeder. He's really quiet and loves to snuggle up to the older boy.
I keep all of them in full coat and as long as you give them a quick brush over once a day then the coat will be easy to maintain, just remember to trim between the toes and around the bottom... saves mess ;-)
Got a few photos of them all on their website

Hi shazhencan 09
Thanks for your reply, advice & well wishes - sorry I never replied sooner I only just saw your message!
Iv'e had a look at your site your three Lhasas all look gorgeous and very posh & well groomed too! I particularly like the colouring of Rusty.
Monty looks so cute too bet he will look HUGE next to the Lhasa's when he is full grown!! They must keep you busy looking after them all!!
I have not attempted to trim any of Max's hair yet although think I will need to have a go soon......
Congratulations on your show results so far and good luck for the future!
