OK, WHERE TO START.
FIRSTLY I HAVE JUST GONE BACK TO WORK AFTER 7 WEEKS HAVING HAD TO HAVE A SHOULDER OPERATION_pale_ UNFORTUNATELY MY COMPANY DID NOT PAY ME. THANKS AND I AM NOW BACK WORKING WITH MINIMAL CASH!! AND XMAS IS COMING.
I APPLIED FOR THE HALIFAX STANDARD CARD BUT WAS REFUSED. I HAVE ALSO APPLIED FOR THE RBS CLASSIC, WHICH I HAVE YET TO RECEIVE A REPLY.
AS IT STANDS I HAVE NO DEBTS YET!! IN RENTED ACCOMODATION EARNING A POOR WAGE.
ANY SORT OF ADVICE WOULD BE EXTREMLY GRATEFUL.

If you have no debts and earn a poor wage DON'T TOUCH A CREDIT CARD!!! Be grateful you've been turned down. Zip over to Debtfree Wannabe and post a budget (income and outgoings) and people will suggest ways of saving money so you're not spending so much.
Sorry if this isn't what you wanted to hear. It's meant well!0 -

Maybe ... but I know from bitter experience it isn't the answer.0 -
I agree with Magentasue.
I hope things go well for you................................I have put my clock back....... Kcolc ym0 -
If the poster is sensible with his money then a credit card with a low limit may be the answer. Surely we all have had cash flow problems and a credit card or overdraft may be a short term answer in this persons situation. The poster is saying "I need some cash for Christmas". May be he/she has children and I can imagine it may be a bleak crimbo for them. A credit card used sensibly can be a very good friend.0

I take your point. If, say, you want £300 for Christmas and use a 0% card you could pay back £50 a month and be no worse off. But if you are already struggling that £50 a month is likely to leave you with too much month left at the end of the money meaning you are tempted to spend on the card.
The OP said he had 'minimal cash' and 'a poor wage' and has been declined for one card. IMO a credit card would be a bad idea, only my opinion.0 -
The trouble with credit cards is the ease of spending more than you intend.I think a bleak crimbo may be better than a bleak 2006.I've been there a few times and it is hard but not impossible, and a good feeling when you get sorted!!0

Yes, you're right, it is a great feeling when solvent again.0 -
If you really need a credit card and your wage is below £15,000 your better off looking at a barclaycard initial to build a credit history. If that doesnt float your boat give capital one a try.
Do listen to the other people though, dont spend more than you can afford. If you only need it for xmas, get one spend, pay back as soon as possible and then dont carry the card round. Dont be tempted to leave the balance on these cards as they charge a horrific amount of interest0
