l21ynz im sorry i jumped on you wrong guy , the car is a Fiesta Roadhog and the new engine is being fitted today i did consider scrapping it but have spent to much on it over 14 mths and the Garage agreed with me on that one , yesterday we went to look at an Astra p reg took a mechanic with us the guy wanted £450 guess what the head gasket had gone so thats what made me make up my mind and have a re con engine , well its not a re con to be honest its a 02 z tec back end write off but thats the road im taking .
Daveboy how dare yoiu call my car a banger you have not seen it and know nothing about it get off your ivory tower and get real .
l21ynz have to say i paid a lot of money for the alloys and tyres thats why im so botherd about them , now back to the original post should i ask the first mechanic for my money back ?.

you could ask him for the mney back, but I doubt you would get a penny, like I said in a previous post, if it had been the engine when you gave it to the mechanic to fix, him replacing the coil pack and treating the oil would have done nothing.

EDIT: I know you said you are not going to scrap it, but if you were could you not remove the alloys and put part worn steel wheels on, and either put the alloys on the new car (if they fit) or sell them and buy new ones with whatever money you get for them?
  • you wont get anything from the original mechanic unless you can prove the engine was knackered 2 weeks ago or prove that he done something to knacker it. (if it was then i doubt you would have had 2 weeks of normal running from it).
to go to court i think you would need a little bit more than "the engine is knackered".
he fitted a coil pack, thats not an engine, its a coil pack.
and as for oil treatment,i don't fully understand what you mean? did he change the oil and filter? or did he add something to the oil.

you still haven't told us what was actually wrong with your engine.

Ok the car was blowing smoke out and i mean smoke the oil treatment he put in he said swells things up and stops the smoke, he said he put a coil pack on it coz it was misfiring , the car was fine for 13 days then the very same prob arose again took it to the garage thats when he said needs a new engine .

the only thing it could be is (and im not sure as ive never used it on a modern engine) this oil treatment,i used it on older cars and it worked as a temporary fix but i would imagine this could caused permanent damage to a modern engine.
    is it still misfiring?
i would be getting a second opinion on the engine being knackered, ask what exactly is it that is knackered about the engine, a repair could be cheaper than a new or recon engine.
