Excuse me I did NOT call your car a banger...read back the posts and get your facts right!!!!!!!!
EDIT: I just wondered why you are so bothered about 15 inch alloys, most cars come with alloys these days.0 -
Hey all we have to start some where when it comes to cars. I am sure in a ideal world we all would love to drive fuel efficient all singing and dancing car0
-
Also if the engine had gone in the first place replacing the coil pack and treating the oil wouldnt have made any difference, it still wouldnt have moved0

This is what happens when you drive a banger on the roads.
I wonder what else is wrong with it if the engine gave up.
For what you're going to spend (about £800), you could get something decent without all the problems.
It also helps to have some basic knowledge about cars too.
Come on then Dave, tell us about your basic knowledge of cars.
After all a basic knowledge is all that is required.
Care to explain how to change a clutch?0 -
the car is 1998 R reg show me an R reg auto with 15 inch alloys mot for 11 mths for £800 then fair enough .
How much change would you like from that £800?
I paid £600 for a P reg Rover 600 with 15" alloys TWO YEARS AGO. My oarents bought a R reg Mondeo 2L Ghia X Estate for £700 18 months ago.0 -

Okay, Zetec engine, so it's a Ford and if it has 15" alloys them I'm guessing it's Mondeo.
A quick spin through Autotrader gives,

First one on the list £495, I'm sure you could get £25 off even if you weren't good at negociating, so £470, one owner (so I imagine it will have good service history) and was serviced just 2,000 miles ago. 12 months MOT.
The only thing it doesn't have is alloy wheels which is suprising as it is a Ghia model but you do £330 to play with, £150 should be enough to get a decent set of secondhand original Mondeo alloys and that leaves you £180 to tax it.
So for £800 you've got a one previous owner only car with alloys plus Tax & MOT for the next 12 months on your 1998 R plate and for a car of that age it's stacked, CD player, Air Con etc.
Edit: Plus you're going to get at least £50 scrap for your current car and I'm assuming your car is taxed, so probably at least another £50 back that. So £100 notes in your pocket as well.0 -

More like £150+ for a scrap medium size car at the moment.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0
