Wanted! Free Domain name

Does any one know of a site where I can get a free domain name?

  • Are you looking for a "proper" domain name such as co.uk or com?
If you are, you'll probably only get free one when you buy a hosting package in conjunction as these companies will need to make their money some how.

You can get a free .tk domain from http://www.tk/ but I think a small ad is displayed when you visit your site.
If you're feeling down, you must be holding a duck.
  • You can opt out to remove the ad somewhere! For sure!

I wouldn't recommend a free domain name - there are companies which will charge less than £10 a year and at least then you have some sort of security - ie. you know they won't take it off you.

Yeah - for the sake of a couple of quid a year, I'd be inclined to go with someone like 123-reg who seem to come highly recommended from what I hear :D

BTW, welcome to the forum, greenpixey - just noticed you're a newbie :hello:
  • I got my domain (https://www.dehydratedchicken.co.uk) from 1&1 for £1.99 a year, this apparently less than cost price for them but I dont see how it could be if they have been offering the same price for at least 3 years now.

A .com domain from there will cost you £8.99/year

Just checked the two websites mentioned above

    Yahoo:
1Reduced monthly fee offer and waived setup fee offer is open to new Merchant Solutions and Web Hosting customers only. Limit one offer per customer, and one use per customer on a single account. Offer expires on 12/31/2005 at 11:59PM and is available only through Yahoo! Small Business. Offers may not be combined with any other offers or discounts, separated, redeemed for cash, or transferred. Other terms and conditions apply; see the Yahoo! Small Business Terms of Service when you sign up.

You don't need any technical know-how. You don't need any additional servers or services, such as a Domain Name Server. The only thing you need is the URL of your current website and your Dot TK domain name will work directly after the registration process! Registration of FREE domain names are subject to the Registration Terms and Conditions. Note that FREEDOMAIN.TK domain names are never legally licensed to the registrant.

As for hosting, https://www.jamroll.co.uk seem to be very good offering a variety of services, including 350MB webspace, 5Gb bandwidth, 30 emails accounts and more which can be found here: http://www.jamroll.co.uk/?page=features

They are supposed to have some of their ads at the bottom of their page but if you check mine you will notice that they dont even appear :)

Otherwise you can go on eBay, their are many sellers offering a hosting package for life at £2.99 featuring unlimited bandwidth, unlimited webspace etc but I suppose their servers are usually overloaded and therefore you will encounter a lot of downtime - I have come accross one auction wher it was guaranteed uptime too!!!

    Good luck ;)
  • I'm looking at a screen from http://www.123-reg.co.uk/ offering me greenpixey.co.uk (with upto 100 fowarding email addresses) for six pounds and nine pence for two years (three quid a year). Why on earth would I want to risk losing proper control over it to save that amount?

If you're feeling down, you must be holding a duck.
